make a proper pruning cut ... just outside the branch collar ... do not leave a stub of a couple inches.. and not quite flush ..

a pic that actually shows hows its attached might get you better info ...

nothing should need to be applied ... air drying is the best ....

pruning NEVER hurts an otherwise healthy tree ....

Heck that's a rotton 'correct' cut on that site. I'm referring to that little box with the tick, the one with the green trunk.

That cut looks good to me. Correct position and correct angle. What do you see which is ’rotten’? But it’s not relevant to lopping off a limb as in the OPs case. It is more like a rose or cane shrub pruning cut.

floral, in the little blue-grey box is a picture that shows too steep an angle for my liking, but worse is its proximity to the bud. If you look at the lowest side of the cut, then move your eye sideways towards the bud, the bud sits a little too high.

But yes, I agree it's irrelevant in this particular discussion.

Still looks fine to me. 45 degrees, sloping away from the bud. Not that plants generally care that much about such nuances. Thay haven’t read the manuals.
