Hi TJ, thank you so much for your reply. It was a gift, but i dont think it was in a cold place. I live in NJ. I determine when it needs water by sticking my finger deep into the soil. its still damp so I haven’t watered it again yet.

With poinsettias, cold is relative :-) They are very sensitive to temps below 50F and even a short period of time in temps in that range can cause leaf drop. They are also sensitive to warm drafts, so keep well away from radiators, air vents and fans.

And DO remove the foil. That can cause the soil not dry as it should, which is also a source of leaf drop.

Did all of the above already. the pot has holes at the bottom so i placed it on a saucer (AND got rid off the foil). :-)

My poinsettia is getting worse. it is sickly looking. i don't know what else to do!

If it was subjected to cold or over watered it will continue to lose leaves. All you can do is wait.

Mine drops leaves intermittently too, when it is too dry or too wet. Just let it be. It will live if you don't fuss over it too much.  ὠ0
