Hi everyone. During the planning stage of our kitchen/laundry remodel I spent a lot of time here and learned a great deal. I planned on posting photos/info when completed to share. Well, we aren't there yet.

This is a no limitation remodel, we are putting in the best of everything. The kitchen was 17 years old. For the countertops we selected Crystallano quartzite and made all the color choices around this stone.

Anyway, the wheels came off our project last week when the stone installer used the wrong process for drilling fixture holes. He did this from 8-9 pm. At that point the finish lighting had not been installed so we didn't think to closely examine his work.

The next morning with daylight we are horrified to find that they chipped and cracked three slabs (we are doing the adjacent laundry room as well). Our contractor comes over and goes ballistic. I show him a video of the guy drilling and he just about faints. "He did it dry, you have to do it wet. "

Although the stone has internal fissures, you can tell these are real cracks because when you run your fingernail across them it catches.

The owner of the fab company is supposed to show on Monday Dec 27. But we are having snow/ice storm. On weds his customer service rep, instead of him, shows up with the contractor. The guy just can't stop talking about how difficult this material is to work with and how they can replace the slabs "but it may happen again."

Contractor says "how about I take this piece here that you guys made wrong and drill a hole using the right technique?" So I fill up a little bucket for him with the one sink we have (about 10" wide in the powder bath), he goes out to his truck. Ten minutes later he's back with a perfectly smooth hole, nothing messed up, and just hands it to the guy.

The guy says "well, I hate to say that it probably was (installers name) fault, but it's looking that way. By the way he feels terrible about it."

Then he says "We can replace them, but if you are willing we would like to take a crack at fixing them."

I look at him and just doesn't even realize what he has just said. This is $40k worth of slabs (5) and fab.

So that is supposed to happen Monday but we are 90 percent sure we will not accept it. They can fill in the chips with an epoxy and polish it. But I don't see what they can do about the cracks. Our faucets are very heavy, they swing back and forth and so on. I can imagine hearing a huge crash one day and come into the kitchen to find the faucet and exploded stone in the sink.

You can see how beautiful this was supposed to turn out. We were going to have our appliances installed on Dec 24! New Years Eve marked day 100 of the occupation. We were not feeling the least bit festive.

Luckily the store where we got them just got 50 slabs! So we shouldn't have any problem finding some beautiful new ones, hopefully the colors will match okay.
