The couch has been sold. Looking for suggestions for colour / style.

I would get a rug to define the TV area/sofa area. Probably 9x12. Can you move the TV to the alcove area - the wall to the right of where it is now? 2 sofas and a couple of chairs for TV viewing. What colors do you like?

Do you really want to unify the space, or define the different areas that have different uses? The clutter is distracting for us in trying to offer suggestions. Maybe you need to have a closet wall? When the previous owners of our house finished the basement they made a deep closet under the HVAC trunk line that is also under the plumbing running to the master bath. It's about 15' long. It's a great place for seasonal decorations, suitcases and whatever all that stuff is you have sitting out. :-) Since you have already put up drywall, do you have some wall area where you can add a closet now?

Large original artworks are an excellent addition that gives character to any space. Good luck and enjoy decor !

Decluttered. The 2 niches by the window have not been finished. Stain has not been decided yet, and number or style of shelves to be added is not yet determined.

We just added a graphite grey shag rug 6x9 for the space. The ottoman shown is from the leather couch and chair to be yet moved down into the space.

We are the ones that designed and finished the space. There are 4 different closets beyond the walk-in we added to the office (blue grey walled room). One is behind the bar, one is along the entrance hall at the bottom of the stairs. Exiting the music area, the new hallway is flanked by 2 closets, one of which extends under the stairs.

Perhaps first decide on a color scheme for the room. What colors do you like? Are you looking to make the are bright and colorful? Below are some of our living room designs. We suggest getting a large rug, and either sofa with two chairs or a sectional.

It’s a basement.

How we have it set up to date. Looking for suggestions.

I would start by making more of a feature of the wall shelves by adding two more and doing them in continuous rows. Then you can display more albums as art/art feature. The way they are installed now just contributes to what people are saying when they say clutter. If you turn it into a solid visual ‘feature’ then it’s no longer ‘clutter’. Painting the wall behind the TV black like the cabinets will make that whole area more of a statement. Larger rugs would be better. The wood framed boxes that are on each side of the window also create a bit of visual clutter - I’d suggest painting them the wall color. What goes in them I’d decide after you resolve the album wall.

You’ve got it all down there in this basement: tv zone, exercise zone, dining/game zone and storage closets. Perfect for the teenagers and kids. If you want a little separation between the music and sofa zones, you could hang semi-sheer curtains on a rod under the dropped ceiling divider…but be careful not to puncture the vent inside. Make a small rule that the sofa back cushions should be fluffed after use…it takes fifteen seconds to fluff all of them. I’d add two or three firm square-shaped colored pillows for contrast. A color for contrast is all you need:
a couple of larger, more colorful rugs, a few colorful pillows, and a bit of colorful art. A basement should a comfortable relaxing place and you have almost all the needed elements.

That is the most chopped up basement design I have ever seen. And the overwhelming feature is the band area, with all the seating facing away from it. Why did you configure all those walls like that?

Hi, please do not feel you are locked into decorating a basement like it is a basement! Decorate the bandstand area to convey the same mood as the kind of music that will be played, paint the wall behind the bandstand as the focal wall, and maybe paint the ceiling of that area as well. Here are 3 examples of a solid color focal wall for the bandstand, or get crazy and paint stick figure musical instruments over the solid color

Create a TV and conversation area in this nook with big area rug and arm chair, relocate the music stuff.

For the bar area, If people will sit for long time to watch TV, get comfy padded stools with a back. Keep the design simple and sleek to avoid “visual clutter”. While you can’t go wrong with a sophisticated black/expresso wall (to match cabinetry) and white stools, you could use a bold color and paint the wall behind the bar 2-3 shades lighter.
