Chair rail that coordinates with shiplap

I have a large great room with the entry, family room, dining area, and kitchen. The ceiling height is 17 feet and I'm looking at adding shiplap to an entry wall to add some interest and hide some imperfections. We would paint the shiplap in the same wall color as the rest of the area (SW First Star, a light grayish white color). If we do this, what could we do with the adjacent family room wall that currently has only a TV hung on it?

Off of the great room is a hallway where we feed our dogs. I'd like to add a chair rail with picture frame and paint in an acrylic paint that is the same SW First Star color as the walls so it can be easily cleaned. The hallway is visible from the great room so wondering if this chair rail will clash with the shiplap. I don't want to do shiplap on the lower part of the wall as I believe it will simply be too much.

Any ideas for these tall, blank walls is much appreciated. I hired a designer and didn't get any ideas so hoping this community can help. Some would say our house is modern farmhouse, others would say transitional: light hardwood floors, gray tile floor to ceiling fireplace, white kitchen with natural wood island and hood, black metal lighting, black iron spindles on stairway.
