I just looked on the GE website. There is only a few in our budget and they are tiny sqft-wise. $2,000 for a 18.9 sqft fridge ὣ1

Samsung is garbage. We trashed a 5 year old samsung because I just couldnt stand to keep repairing it over and over. Plus the interior layout was terrible. Really, a compkete waste of money.

We got a moderately priced LG at Best Buy. Zero problems so far. We had wanted a Bosch but the wait was too long.

Electrolux is now the supplier for Ikea. 5 year warranty. Ikea dropped Whirlpool. I'd avoid Whirlpool and their owned partners Amana and Kitchenaid. Whirlpool gave us the infamoius 1 year warranty. Frigidaire is an Electrolux(Swedish) company. They have a 33" counter-depth 4 door stainless.

This Summit might be too small and too budget for your consideration, but it’s worked out really well for me.

Do NOT buy a Samsung. I have had two dawgs in a row, don’t ask. Also had a crap Electrolux before that. Buying a fridge is a real challenge. Try hard to avoid the ice and water dispenser because they are highly problematic, especially in Samsung.

Carrie B, that Summit looks nice for a smaller size fridge. I actually much prefer one door in any space less than 36”.

Ditto poor quality of Samsung. I could write a book. We are very happy with our Whirlpool counter depth fridge. It's well laid out and the interior pieces seem well made. We got one with ice in the freezer and an interior water dispenser, so we didn't lose too much room to an in the door unit.

Jenna, I am in the same boat working on my kitchen remodel. I am worried a full-sized fridge will stick out too far and impede kitchen flow when one needs to open it, but like you, I find it frustrating that a smaller fridge is $1000 more. Also, we are a family of 4 and do a lot of cooking so the cubic foot of a fridge is a consideration. Luckily, we have a mudroom around the corner from the kitchen where we keep a second hand fridge for overflow.

This one is my choice atm but we won't be ready to start the project until the end of the year so who knows where prices/availability will be then. Mostly I'm using the dimensions for planning purposes.

Our current fridge is a Samsung and my husband and I agree we don't want another one of Samsung's refrigerators. We've had problems with the ice maker and we've had to completely empty the fridge to defrost coils in the back panel on several occasions.

We've been pleased ( hoping I don't jinx it now) with GE Profile PWE23KYNFS

IT will be 2 years in June. It also has the internal water dispenser and ice in the freezer, french doors. bottom freezer. I know inflation has happened, but we paid just about $2000 for it. I think it's supposedly 23 cubit feet and we have found with a bit of creativity, we are not pressed for space. We do not have any additional fridge/or freezer space.

Re Fisher and Paykel.. I know they were highly regarded. My sister got one about 3 years ago and in the height of the pandemic it died. I don't recall the details, but it was covered under warranty. However, .there was quite a lot of trouble and confusion since there are very few authorized repair people, and getting parts was a real pain. Ultimately they did get it replaced, but it took more than a month, maybe 6 weeks. Communicating with the company ( I think in New Zealand was also a treat between the time difference and believe it or not, the English language usage (with no fridge. luckily they have some great neighbors).

We have a Whirlpool counter depth SxS fridge purchased in 2018 or 2019 at Lowe's, cost less than $2k w/tax & delivery. we expect it to be as reliable as anything else in the CD category. So far, we are happy with it.

Ditto wdccruise on the LG refrigerators. If you’re a Costco member, they seem to have the best pricing. Watch for promos.

Rather than looking at brands first, think about what you want in a fridge: French door or not? Water dispenser or not? Ice maker or not? Then look at dimensions, then look at brand. I have an LG in my new home and it feels like it has a real quality build. I've only had it about 8 months, but I'm not unhappy with the feel and quality so far. Yes, from Costco.

FWIW:

DS is fridge shopping, went to local store, was told they don't recommend Samsung b/c of breakdowns and LG b/c their service department doesn't want to work on them, very difficult to get to the parts to fix.

they recommended for him in his budget - GE he is considering GNE29GYNFS... he can go full depth b/c it will be recessed and line up with cab/counter run. he did not want ice/water on the door.

Unless they fixed the leaking problem with the Samsung counter depth DO NOT BUY ONE! I had the counter depth fridge for almost 10 years and, while it was a good fridge in terms of keeping food cold and frozen, it was leaking into the crispers and icing on the bottom from day one! We had it "fixed" twice and it always leaked.

I found out by researching further it was a design flaw and I was not alone. There are hundreds of youtube videos on the issue and how to temporarily defrost the fridge. I moved it to my basement as an extra fridge and I am so glad to have it out of my kitchen.

A friend of mine has/had a white Samsung fridge with the ice & water dispenser on the outside of the door. In less than a year, rust started to form around the edges. Samsung told her the paint was not covered under their warranty. She took it to a local TV station consumer issues advocate and ... it miraculously was replaced by Samsung.

I certainly can’t say it’s ”best” due to others’ issues, but my 2013 CD FD Samsung gave me zero problems up until I sold that house last summer. And that was with two ice makers and dispenser. I liked that fridge quite a lot.

If it isn't too late, consider having your builder recess the wall so that you can push a full size fridge back further and mimic the look of a counter depth fridge.
