Bathroom design help

last modified: 4 years ago

Okay, I'm renovating my "Vancouver special" bathroom (10.5' X 4.5' with an alcove for shower). I'm removing the tub and replacing with a walk-in shower. The question I have is regarding the 10.5' wall that my vanity and toilet are on.

  • I'm removing the current 80s - 90" vanity with two sinks (the two sinks are not really necessary) can definitely go with a smaller vanity, but no less than 60".
  • The toilet is staying where it is at the far end.
  • I have approx 90" to fill or leave partially empty?
  • Cannot put a linen tower as you enter due to electrical. would it look weird at the other end by the toilet? I seem to think it would.
  • Should a smaller vanity be centered? or up against the wall as soon as you enter the bathroom?
  • Don't want to two separate vanities.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS!!

    Pictures?

Haven't started the reno yet. Do you really want to see what I have currently?

Oh yes, these Houzz folks don't want to think about anything unless you have pics, and they will probably ask for an architectural to scale drawing of the space too. I'd just scribble on scrap paper a basic layout of the areas you are talking about including measurements, take a pic of it, and post it with your question. You will get many more replies.

I was wondering about the electrical and where the door is because it would be a shame not to have a linen cabinet. However, I’d maximize vanity space (keep it against the wall) because more drawers can hold your supplies.

I swear the colour is not as bad as it looks in these photos, but it isn't great lol

I’d replace like what you have but more drawers in the vanity.

Keep the footprint of your vanity and if you just want one sink, that's fine. I would not let 90" go to waste if more storage was needed, and the additional counter top is useful too.

I need a to scale floor plan please . IMO the space is bigger than 10 x4.5 so post the floor plan from wall to wall not the space leftover after the shower

Don’t think a different floor plan is necessary. Just decide what configuration of cabinets you want and how many sinks.

If you have the space I don't know why you wouldn't want a long vanity. You can put a cabinet in the middle of it if you want to:

Or put a tall linen cabinet on one end and sacrifice more counter space. I buy my bathroom vanities from a local kitchen cabinet supplier. They have figured out that there is a good market for them to make bathroom cabinets as well so they have standard sizes available. To make something longer you put together sink base cabinets with drawer cabinets just like you would in a kitchen to create any kind of configuration you want.

I guess the real question is how would you change the long vanity to a one sink vanity for another option (min. 60") where would you put it along that wall? How would you decorate the empty space?

I would center it between the distance from the door frame to the toilet. I would not decorate the space. There really won't be all that much space. Just leave it as is.
