We might suggest going with just plain roman shades for in the kitchen area, as adding the same pattern to all of the windows might be too much. Perhaps look at roman shades with texture so that the ones in the kitchen have texture. Below are some ideas to aid you with your dilemma.

Hi Amy thanks for your input. Are you saying to leave my valences as is and add the plain ones you're talking about to my other windows above the sink area?

What Amy did in the second photo is always my vote - to install at the ceiling line. It always makes the ceiling look higher and you can have full uninterrupted glass when desired. Kudos to you for making your own. But I wouldn’t want to add that to the kitchen side for the reasons I stated.
