We bought a dining table on Facebook marketplace for cheap and had it refinished by a small local company. The table top is wood veneer. After it was refinished, we were told it was stained with a Varathane oil based stain, and then sprayed with 4 coats of Varathane Satin polyethylene "for durability". I can't find any information online about polyethylene finishes on wood - I'm not sure if the person meant polyurethane (the stain and finish info were sent in a text).

We let our table fully cure and did not use it for 30 days after it was delivered. But since we have started to use it, every little thing is leaving stains and marks on the table. (not scratches, but things penetrating into the table very easily and leaving stains) The littlest bit of food or liquid that gets on the table leaves a stain that will not come out. Some of the stains I don't know how they even got there, but I know they weren't there when we got the table back from being refinished. I haven't tried much but a soapy microfiber cloth to remove the stains because I don't want to ruin the finish....but that didn't work and I'm not sure why this is happening.

We have little kids and we expressed to the people doing the refinishing that we wanted a durable finish that could withstand some messes (obviously we know no finish is impenetrable). We use placemats under our kids' plates and we use coasters for drinks, but some food or water or oil from salad dressing getting on the table is inevitable. It is a dining room table, we eat here! And kids are messy! I really don't like table cloths and don't want to have to use one all the time just to keep my table looking nice. Plus they are also very inconvenient with kids as I'd pretty much have to wash it after every meal (not practical).

Any thoughts on why this is happening and is there any way to clean it off without damaging the finish? Or are we just doomed to having to use a table cloth or having an ugly table with tons of marks and stains all over? See photos below...
