Help pull this room together

I am stuck on how to bring this room together. Pillow colors, rug, shades instead of blinds? Any suggestions?

    Ok. Thanks!

My husband insisted on an ottoman. (The chair by the lamp). The curtains were up already so I v an do anything there. I made a mess! The black glass furniture has a rubbed bronze. So I chose this round table. It’s a small garden home. So tight space. I could do away with DR rug.

Pretty room! If it were me - I would focus first on selecting the right rug (colors) and getting the front legs of all the upholstered furniture on it (size) so the sitting area seems pulled together and cohesive.

Once I have the rug in place, I would select a coffee table as well as side tables where they fit/make sense with a lamp - and I would definitely a floor lamp as well. Very last I would select a few pillows - my fav sources are Pop o Color store on Etsy and Arianna Belle (online shop). Have fun!

I think we still need to see the other wall Stand back and take more pictures and then stand in front of the sliding doors and take pictures.

Here’s a few more. Hope it helps. I need help!

Rug needs to go. I would love to have an large area rug. This little guy doesn’t have accident but my older dog occasionally has an accident. I’ve been hesitant to buy a very large rug that is light in color. Any rug color suggestions?

The sofa looks green but it’s actually same color as the other. Light. Sand color. Can’t change floors. The walls are looking yellow in theses photos but is actually a assessable beige from SW.

Loved the Etsy site for pillows. Would these work if I get rid of dining room rug? A floor lamp is good idea. Thank you for your suggestions.

    Something like this?

From the windows I need light control.

Also should I do away with black pieces in the room?

I don't think the black pieces look bad. Look for two complementary rugs and use one under the table and the other in the seating area. They don't have to be rugs sold as area rugs. Any good sized carpet retailer will have many remnants that can be bound to the right size. Also any of their stock can be cut to size and bound as well. The rug you have now looks too traditional for the room. If you want to introduce a color, I would consider green and/or rust. Some people like a more monochrome color scheme. If that's what you like, then the pillows you showed in your posting would be good. You don't have to get a light colored rug just because your floors are dark. Just don't get something so dark it disappears against the floors.

I love a little black to create some drama and contrast - it is a nice addition to the neutrals (you can do an online search for "neutral living room with black accents" to get some ideas

I'm begging you......................turn the phone sideways and take the picture. I don't need to see your ceiling or the dining area, and I can't piece together what pics you have supplied.

Several of your items have the shape of pottery, a bit of curve - maybe a very patterned rug would play opposite.

That colorful Norison is beautiful. I also love that contemporary black and white ( I know I have seen it in other colors for sure navy and white and it is beautiful).

You do have a very pretty home.

I think your curtains would look better if you replaced them with something other than white and hang them to the height of the ceiling where you have the upper window (patio door) You could add some wooden roman shades. I would also add the shade to the other window and place it at the same height as the one on the patio door and hang the curtains just above it so both windows look the same height. It would give a nice illusion of height and balance.

This is what I did in one of my former homes.

This is what I mean in regards to hanging the shade above the window.

Okay! Thank you. Shades look good too.

I think stark white curtains might be fine, if pillows are super with both white and sofa color. Called chartreuse, with white seems modern.

If you prefer quite dark earthy, not white curtains, likely.

I think if you choose an accent color you could just go with it. Pillows, rug, etc. The room is pretty but needs some pop of color

Another mention about DR's black tree - might not be 'needed' esp. if new rug is brighter than current one. That area [and console/ mirror combo] has alot of black.

If rug is less neutral, maybe the black would 'lift' from its severe contrast.

I think that’s why I like the last rug the most. Thank you for your input.

I missed something cause I didn't see your comments of 4 days ago. I suppose the white/brown/colorful Monaco works with neutrals of black and white. The beiges work it seems. Do you want to see more of its colors in our posts?

Do I have an eclectic style or more transitional?

Paula, I decided to post part of a houzz.com article [select story]:

This living area reads as monochromatic, yet it’s anything but boring. The reason: Strong furniture carries the space, and there’s just enough pattern from the curtains and the grain of the wooden coffee table to break up the swath of neutrals. Plus, the wide windows shed light on subtle shading variations in the walls, upholstery and rug.

Think textures - and if you just can’t live without a jolt of color, keep it to a few strategic accents

Warm neutrals rule: cream, taupe, tan, khaki, gray, with the occasional hint of chocolate or espresso brown thrown in to ground the palette.

from houzz.com: Transitional furnishings — not a baroque flourish in sight. Gentle curves and rigid lines feed off each other to create energy.... This living space is filled with clean-lined pieces that have a sculptural air — look how the shapely armchair balances the nipped-and-tucked sofa. The round ottoman and demilune table echo the circular motif of the folding screen... Transitional style is not Eclectic. You may spot a few pieces from other styles, but for the most part, transitional spaces stick with traditional and contemporary elements.

In other words, I don't see your room's style as eclectic, which some say is "all over the map" - do you want it to be?!
