Favorite shelling pea for fresh eating? Of course there are many varieties all claiming to be awesome, but descriptions can vary quite a bit.

Want eating quality, and not too hard to fill up a bowl.

Trying 'Lincoln' this year, supposed to be very sweet and handle some June heat "decent". Vines about 3 feet tall? Will provide support.

'Alderman'/ 'Tall Telephone', tall plants, large peas. Supposed to be like varieties from before commercial agriculture? Tried this, grew 7 feet tall, not terribly productive but had nice large peas.

Hard to search for older threads, sorry. Houzz search engine can be very frustrating.

I only grow peas in the winter and early spring. Wando is a late pea that does tolerate heat a bit better than others. Does not have the flavor of many others tho.. Most reliable Laxton's Progrees #9. not the best tasting or best yielding, but it will give you peas when all others fail. I have had good results with PLS595, Survivor, Dakota , Strike, Easy Peasy, Mr.Big ... Overall tho Green Arrow has been best for flavor and yield. My winter pea is Willett Wonder, similar to Alaska, but vines are more manageable.

We've been growing "Frosty" for several years now (20?) and are quite happy with the production and quality. Below is day's picking from a 25' row...

Below is the row (from last year), a 25' trellis with peas planted on both sides. As of today our peas are about 4" tall, planted about a month ago...

+1 for Green Arrow. Long pods, good sized peas, a heavy yield, and very reliable. I do like Telephone though; very large peas well off the ground (but needs support).

I've tried Green Arrow before but it failed , probably more about the weather growing conditions.

Does it work for the fall ?

the best yield I ever got in the fall was Gurney's Miragreen;
