Bumping--anyone have any experience with Belvedere or Stormy Black, or with any soapstones in a bathroom setting? Thanks!

I have Belvedere (from M. Teixeira) in my kitchen. It’s a fabulous stone, (and beautiful)…very hard, so you have to try really hard to scratch it. We’ve been using it in our hard working for 6 years, and would use it again in a heartbeat. I can’t imagine it not standing up to the rigours of a bathroom.

Since you have soapstone in your kitchen, you know that the stone will patina with oils from hands, face creams, etc. And that the stone can be brought back to nearly its original appearance with the back of a blue scrubby sponge, some Comet or Bon Ami, and water.

We chose a Belvedere slab with lots of green and white inclusions. Here it is:

Were you able to get a sample of the Stormy Black? Are you doing the sink in it as well? We ordered it for our kitchen countertop (it was just recently templated but won’t be installed for a few more weeks) so I can’t comment on everyday use yet, however, I have a sample that I’ve been testing products on for a few months and without oiling. I’ve used it to open the seal on jars, dropped a sharp metal object on it, and put vinegar, lemon, chili paste, and just now I tried retinol, 2% BHA solution, and moisturizer. Very very slight chipping along the sides where I open jars, and the metal dragging somewhat surface scratched but I don’t find it too noticeable as the sample I have has a lot of white in it. I haven’t really noticed any etching from the food products (just that it took off the oiled layer) or anything from the facial products. I haven’t oiled it in a few months but did today after using the facial products so you can see a before, after products wiped off and after a very light coating/and then wiped off again of foodsafe mineral oil. It’s a beautiful stone, I can’t wait for mine to be installed.

We haven't requested samples, but mostly just because I feel like we know the general pros/cons of soapstone from our existing stone, and the two we're looking at are considerably harder than our kitchen counter (Barroca) so there's (hopefully!) nowhere to go but up. I also assume that the bath (which will be a master bath used primarily by adults) will get far lighter use than the kitchen overall. We would also be working with M. Teix and are close enough to their SF warehouse to be able to go look if needed. But since we're working with remnants, we'll be at the mercy of whatever the particular stones available look like. We won't be doing a soapstone sink--just a standard undermount. The major issue we've had with the Barroca has been chipping at the edge where we stand against it, but it is also a super soft soapstone variety. In the bathroom we'll be using the soapstone with a green and black tile backsplash to tie to the tiled shower, so I'm leaning towards the Stormy Black if we can get it.

@L C that looks a lot like the slabs I just reserved for my kitchen. Once you have it installed, consider posting a photo (selfishly, so I can see what it looks like, lol!)
