Missing bark on tree

I live on southwest Tennessee. This tree was planted five years ago, don't know what kind it is. As you see in one of the photos the bark is missing in places, this started about two years ago. It appears to be ok but would hate to lose it. Anyone know what the problem can be and how I can fix it? Thank you.
