Hard to tell from this distance but it looks like a deciduous Magnolia to me. Not something usually grown for foliage or habit, or as a foil for other plants, especially ephemerals you didn’t specifically choose. There are many other shrubs with similar foliage including evergreens.

I THINK that I found it... this is at Lowes today:

It's a Nellie R Stevens Holly. Part Sun, 15' tall, $60... I dunno, maybe not the best choice for that kind of money. I might create another thread later on to discuss alternatives.
