What State are you in? Zone 7a you might want the roses in the sunniest area of the fence.

Some climates that would be too much but probably not in z 7.

Hi Sheila! I am in New York. Long Island to be specific. The summers can get pretty hot, but I don’t know how much these roses can tolerate. I was thinking of planting the climbing rose on a trellis against the garage, I think that would get the most sun there. Not sure if the East and South fence get as much though? Or should I not plant near the fence, and have them get all day sun?

I would think they would love the sunniest area where you are. If a fence is on the South side but the roses are inside it with the fence between the roses and the sun that won't work as well.

Roses love sun where you are. Arizona, or the like, a partial half day sun is sometimes better.

Don't cram them right up against a fence- besides full sun roses need air circulation all around them. You won't be packing them into a chocked full perennial bed with your other plants.

Cear, that’s good to know. I guess I was planning on having a lot of perennials around the roses, I did forget that they need ample breathing room around them. Thank you! Do you think having ground cover plants near the rose bushes would be okay?
