Can stacked stone be put in wall with HVAC on it?

Two questions:

1. I wanted to know if it is ok to put stacked stone on a wall with an HVAC return vent at the bottom of the wall? The stone has a lot of dust that get on my hands when I hold it. I was wondering when its up on the wall will this dust get into my vent and cause issues?

2. Does the dust go away after being installed on the wall? It is a rough surface and would be difficult to wipe down. Will I contine to have all this dust falling from it in my home?

We didn't choose a stacked stone fireplace. One of the reasons is dust, it will be a dust collector and not a pleasure to clean. Frequent , thorough vacuuming will probably be a necessity. I dont think tho that you will have a problem with dust just going into a vent from the wall spontaneously.

You haven't provided a picture, but I imagine a stacked stone wall with an HVAC return is going to look like what it is: fake. If you want stone veneer, I suggest you explore relocating the HVAC return so the stone will be uninterrupted.
