Personally, I'd choose neither of those options. The main reason being Electrolux and Whirlpool do not spin between the washes or rinses on most cycles which will result in poorly rinsed laundry and a smelly washer. I'm not sure what your tech was talking about but LG actually makes excellent, reliabile washers and parts are readily available. Check out the 3900 or 4000 series or the washtower. The washtower is a single unit that can be separated for installation.

Or get a Miele W1/T1 set. That's what I have and I am very happy with them.

Thanks. Maybe I'll give LG another look, although I've heard that now from more than one tech person. I was looking at the Miele, but I'd really prefer a gas dryer.

Hi Joanne. Have you considered having the SQ control board replaced? The rest of the components in those sre known to be very robust and if possible, I bet that solution would be less hassle for you than replacing them. And I agree with others that LGs and Samsungs can be troublesome to service. Good luck with whichever path you take.

My tech said it would be very expensive, like $1200 and then it would be sort of Frankensteined and he didn't think that was worth doing. It also seemed difficult to find the part. And it wasn't 100% clear that it would fix the problem--it seemed like a gamble. He must have spent a total of 12 hours at my house over 4 visits trying to fix it. At this point I wouldn't want to keep it b/c we closed the drum without wiping it out and now it's full of mold. I wasn't paying attention. Now I regret that because I'm coming around to thinking it might have been worth it. UGH.

Just got a second opinion from a second tech who confirmed: get a new unit. His answer when I asked what he recommends was, immediately: LG. So I will be giving that washtower another look!
