Not really enough information to comment but the upper section looks like a two person closet that can be accessed from the bathroom and the bedroom. (The room that currently has a fireplace) The fireplace can always be removed and stored, hidden behind a false wall, or be made into a feature in the bath.

Can you make the measurements larger?

What is the fireplace room used for currently? What would you like it to be?

Thank you, HALLET & Co! Your suggestion matches what my architect came up with. I thought having a fireplace in the bathroom might be a bit too "out there" so am happy to hear another pro suggest it. Since this an old home and the fireplace is original, I want to be careful to not remuddle things too badly. Which is part of the reason I wanted to see if the bathroom could go in the back area, which has nothing special about it (architecturally and historically speaking).

cpartist, I made the measurements larger - hopefully that helps. The fireplace room is currently a library with floor to ceiling bookshelves. I work from home and my office is in the little alcove off that room. But there are plenty of other spaces in the house that I can work from.

Truth be told, I would love it if the fireplace room could stay more or less in tact -- add a wall of floor-to-ceiling cabinets for closet space, keep a small desk in there. But I recognize that the space may not work well for it, and a combination dressing room / office might be kind of strange :)

I would add doors to these pax cabinets but this is a nice inspiration for your office/ dressing room.

I did something similar to your second idea but kept the closet open to the bathroom. I like this layout better than putting the closet in with the fireplace. I can see a fireplace in a bathroom but not a closet. The area under the window in the closet would be dresser drawers.

Why I like this versus your version is you can go shower and then not have to walk around the bedroom to go get dressed.

I didn't close off the toilet but I personally prefer a separate toilet area.

All the areas in the closet would be hanging mostly not cabinets.

cpartist, I really like that a lot! You even managed to fit desk space in, which is amazing. I appreciate you spending the time to put that drawing together. I think that could work well for us.

I'm also glad to hear someone else say that it's OK to have a fireplace in the bathroom. It's something I had never considered, and I admit I was alarmed when I first saw the architect's drawing.

Of course, now I think the bathroom could use a tub to go with the fireplace. But I don't think there is room for one, and I'm not a bath person anyway :)

Glad you like it. Actually fireplaces in bathrooms are considered an ultra luxury feature.

Um I might switch the dresser with the desk so you can have a window view while working. Your call.

Hopefully a good solution will also be found for your kitchen! And once it's all done, we want lots of pictures. I for one am an old house lover. As mentioned my first house was 1927 and my second was 1898.
