I try not to store anything that would be affected by heat or humidity. No cushions, paper products, food, clothing, shoes…. It IS possible to add air conditioning and a dehumidifier. I can’t imagine how expensive that would be!

You might contact a local reputable A/C service company and ask them. I got good advice from my local company regarding dehumidification (different state) and A/C maintenance.

I was advised by a Florida resident to get an A/C maintenance agreement and I ask the local company HVAC questions when they come out for service every six months. Some A/C systems can get clogged with mineral deposits but that can be prevented. It’s best to have a local company look at your system and advise you on how to keep it in top working condition for the environmental conditions in your area, your home and your A/C system.

Read the reviews and ask your neighbors who they use.

A dehumidifier will be fighting a constant endless battle in a FL garage! Garage doors never seal perfectly and every time you open the garage door you will be starting all over again.

What we keep in ours: cars, tools, extra water, old fridge, coolers, bikes, trash bins (neighborhood doesn't allow them to be left outside). We built this past year so I also have a pile of left over construction stuff that I need to sort and then store or discard.

Yes, some people will install a small AC unit in the garage, but those are usually for a specific use while working on hobbies or if the garage is set up as a gym. They don't usually run those all the time.

After 19 years here in Florida, my garage has a ceiling fan to help circulate the air. Do not even think about cardboard of any type unless you want bugs. Any storage I have in my garage consists of plastic sealable totes. Everything is off the floor on shelves.

The extreme heat in the garages causes batteries in cars to fail far more quickly than in northern states.
