Help! Carpet color for navy foyer?

I need some design advice! We're re-doing our entry foyer; right now it's grey and drab. We're going for a more sophisticated, moody feel (nothing preppy or nautical). So, we're painting the paneling navy (Benjamin Moore Polo Blue), and the wall above it will be navy grasscloth wallpaper (Serena & Lily Grasscloth Wallcovering in Navy). The bright blue door will also be painted navy.

What color carpet should we do? Originally, we had wanted to do a middle easter/Turkish style rug/runner, but the stair flooring is in rough shape (it's concrete and would be a big $$$ investment on top of this to refinish them). So we're going to wall-to-wall carpet it. We need something that'll look good but also not show dirt, stains, etc. too much since this is a front entry way so lots of shoes on it. Any ideas?

We looked at a few deep blue/navy/grey carpet samples but can't tell if it's too much blue?

Any advice is helpful - thanks so much!

Somehow with the small amout of light I see in your picture I think that everything in dark blue is just too dark. Should you go for that, you will at least need a lighter carpet such as the one above from Sabrina (shown again below) but you don't want something that will get dirty easily so I don't think that would work for you.

I would keep the wainscoting in a warm white with your blue grasscloth above, install a nice wood handrail, and cover your electrical box (if permitted in your area) which you can finish with moulding on the edge to give it a similar look to your wainscoting. Leave the box cover plain or hang small plants or a painting...

The truth is you are going to want the most durable and easiest to clean carpet possible because that is an immediate step from outside weather conditions. IMO the bigger sample of carpet is a better choice. The color should not be too much because of all the direct daylight.

IMO let the beautiful door be the focus and the only blue surface in that space. Gorgeous color! I'd choose a patterned carpet with lots of neutrals and texture - browns and greys. The number one goal should be to hide dirt and wet that will get tracked in from outdoors. You have an unusual but very charming little foyer. The white paneled wall is a real bonus and adds a lot of character.

I like the Karastan one too; the pattern makes it look sophisticated. What is it made of? Definitely NO to the three smaller samples of the tufted carpet. Will you mix up the paint finishes? I'd do a high gloss on trim and doors to help bounce the light around and give some dimension. It will be a fun impact having an all-navy entry! Do you have any light fixtures in there?

I would be looking at indoor/outdoor carpet for sure so you aren’t replacing a Karastan in 2 years.

I'd go for tweed or houndstooth carpet with navy and either taupe or gray. Or you could even do a plaid, which would go great with the navy-forward color scheme. Here are a couple from Stark Carpet:

The other option might be to get a wool/sisal blend:

Wow, this is all so helpful, thank you so much! You're all right that the tufted solid blue is going to be way too much blue, and end up looking strange especially in the day light. I'm going to lean toward patterns and something that won't stain like tweed or indoor/outdoor options so we aren't replacing it too soon. I've never posted to Houzz before and this was SO HELPFUL - thank you all!

Also take a look at light grey and white plaids and tweeds. All blue is too blue. @lisedv and Sabrina gave you better ideas for the steps.
