So now I ask, is there a difference? If I could get them to bloom now I wouldn't ask. But I always thought bloom color was all the same on CC.....?

The flowers on each plant will be the same, but they do come in different colors - usually purple, lavender, pink, or white. I've seen Thanksgiving cactus in red as well, and there are hybrids with variegated flowers.

S. x buckleyi has actinomorphic blooms (radially symmetrical.) The blooming plant in your last pic is that one. They are much more rare, as far as finding @ a store. The foliage does not have points.

The plants sold by the millions during the holiday season are S. truncata (synonym = S. bridgesii.) They have zygomorphic blooms (bilaterally symmetrical,) pointy foliage, and come in a variety of colors. The tags say "Christmas cactus" but you'll encounter people who insist that you call it Thanksgiving cactus instead.

Both of your purchases look like the same plant to me, S. x buckleyi. You'll be able to tell when they bloom.

Okay, so if I purchased cacti with no points on its segments....what variety of bloom colors could be expected? Shades of pink/fashion?

Just like the blooming plant in your pic. That is the only color.

Thanks Tiffany, you confirmed standard color for buckleyi. Don't know why bridgesii name was used to describe what wasn't a truncata.
