Any suggestions?

I just can’t think of anything more uncomfortable than getting down on the floor to look at book titles under a bench. Are people really going to sit on the benches? Will you have other seating in the room?

It will be my children's books as they love to read. Yes, there will be other seating in the room. Two oversized armchairs in each corner facing the windows as there will be a water view.

So you suggest doing away with the banquette all together?

Children grow and then you are left with shelves and seating no one wants to use. I would get rid of the banquete seating entirely.

Consider a comfy sofa or love seat and tables with storage. I spent hours reading as a child. Even that young, nimble child body would have rebelled at sitting on a banquette seat for hours to read or play.

How about built in bookshelves flanking the living room entry wall with the chairs pullout toward center of room and a nice chesterfield sofa infront of window.

Yes we've also thought of the idea of a lower backed sofa in front of the windows instead of the banquette. Maybe something like this? I'm going for a beachy look since we are in a town on the ocean.

I would eliminate the banquette. I am not anti banquette, I actually like them, but, not in a sun room. The seating in there should be more relaxed and comfortable. I would build or buy some book cases, for the kids books, and put a comfortable couch in there.

I have a sunroom off my living room a bit smaller than yours that served as a quiet play space when my family was younger and now is a music room for their 3/4 bass. we have bookshelves ( not built in) by the living room entry and the puzzles and games are housed there and i went with a small seatee infront of window instead of a window seat for flexibility and i like being able to rearrange the furniture so a Christmas I can put our live tree in the center of the room too.

My house is more grandma than coastal but I like how having a sofa makes the space sometimes seem like an extension of the living room too.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel the best thing about windows with a view is standing at them and gazing out. I do that all the time at my house where large windows look out over the river bottom and fields. I would find a built-in seat (facing away from the view!) very frustrating.

A window seat I don’t think is all that comfortable for sitting. You can’t really lean against the window, and it can be cold or hot depending on the weather. We have had a window seat in the the last house and this, and they are better used for plants! (although, in the other house, it was just the right height for the toddler to run his cars as he looked out at the cars on the street.)

They better be great books because while sitting on the window seat reading there could be a beautiful view behind you. Book storage and "sun room" do not seem to go together very well. If you insist on storing books in the space and be comfortable, I would recommend tall bookshelves against the blank walls (out of the sun), and comfy chairs and small tables.

Do an L-shaped one in the upper left corner of the plan and have the banquette stop short of the door swing. And add drawers for extra storage underneath, not open shelves.
