kitchen wall advice

Hi friends. We’re gutting our kitchen and are getting casement windows on the side that hasn’t been removed yet (windows, trim etc)
My issue is, the window on the left has a smaller side to the window than the window on the right much larger.

In my mind, I had imagined a Sconce on either side or over each window but my contractor says its uneven. He suggested a hanging sconce above each window.
Any suggestions?

I have marked red dots to show the right side has a larger wall clearance than the left

Sorry but sconces IMO never in a kitchen . Maybe show us what you were thinking for the sconces.

Lights in a kitchen are meant to light the task being performed under the light so think of it that way and not that there is less wall on the left than on the right. That is all irrelevant once cabinets are installed. I would not want a sconce on the wall beside the window. I would want something above like ceiling pot lights for instance.

nothing wrong with adding sconces for a statement... make certain you have plenty of other lighting. different circuits for sure, I think more is always better, you don't always use them at the same time... my neighbor freaked when he found out we have 10 ceiling lights in our sitting room, not to mention the table lamps and floor lamps I will also be including.

I agree more lighting is always better than poor lighting . I also think pot lights in a kitchne are better than sconces for the reason that pots lights give all over lighting with hopefully no shadows since IMO a kitchen needs to be lit like an operating room for function and 2 or more circuits to control the lighting when not opersting . So get the windows , no sconces and then that difference will not be so obvious . You have lived with that so eitehr chnge the placement of the windows or live with it.

Not sure I understand why the windows cannot be the same size????

Why casements? Are the rest of the windows in the home double hung? I would be consistent.

I would select a library sconce if you have the room to install it over the windows.

I should also add, we’re getting pot lights. I was just wanting to create Layers ( for esthetic purposes 🥰)

The windows will be the same size.. its the side to the windows that are not equal on both side
Thanks for the suggestion! I thought of library lights as well

We have a similar situation except with a sink in the middle. We did a pendant centered on each window. Didn't think there was enough room above the windows for a wall-mounted sconce to look good. A library sconce like the ones in the photos might address that, though.

If you really want sconces on the sides, I'd put shelves or cabinetry on the wall with the door that runs to the corner, so that the remaining open wall on the right matches the width of the wall on the left to trick your eye into believing it's the same. But I can't fully see what is going on at that end to know if that's feasible.

I would suggest a large or long pendent light in between the two windows to somewhat keep the symmetry of the wall. If you are personally not concerned with symmetry, then do the wall sconces! I think they would look fine either way. Here's some inspo pics to help you out:

In looking at the perspective, IMO the design of the hood extends out too far and seems a bit fussy for the room. I would not match the details of the cabinets for the design of the hood.

Look at these examples for reference.
