@A G This is actually LVP flooring, rather than true hard wood. Does that rule also apply to LVP?

Ethan, no if it's LVP you don't need to worry about the joists. If this was a true wood it would matter.

You typically want to run a flooring like this in a way that will make it look the least choppy. Since you have LVP you can choose to run it in whichever direction you would like because the LVP has no restraints. We would probably lean towards running it horizontally, like you have shown in Option 1 and Option 4 (The 1st and 4th photographs).

We are about to install hardwood floors and the contractor said, in general, you want to run them in the direction that you are walking when you enter the front door. Since we are also putting wood floors upstairs, the direction will change -- in that case we will run them in the direction we are walking after reaching the top of the stairs. Our subfloors are diagonal.
