Need help for area rug

Hi all! We just installed hickory flooring in our den. New white blinds on the way, and wall color will be changed. Need ideas for an area rug, was thinking to go under front feet of couch and up to the chair (8x10). Got this darker rust paisley patter on the chair/accent pillows, not sure if an oriental design would be too much. Any thoughts / ideas much appreciated!

This palette, though not necessariluy this rug. The palette pulls together the light gold of the sofa, the ivory/white; the browns of floor and furnishings. A lighter rug like this one will add a dynamic contrast to your new dark floors.

Consider a large art work or pairing of art works above the sofa. In a relaxing space, I'm not sure a clock adds to the ambience. If you get an art work, choose the rug afterwards.

A Persian design is such a classic and would be gorgeous in this pretty space! It doesn't have to match exactly; in fact the most interesting rooms have layers of complementary shades, not exact matches.

dont worry about a rug until the paint is on the walls, the space will change again.

Sorry, I overlooked that you're changing the paint. Do that first, or get art or a rug, then choose paint. I tried to offer choices with current paint.

Rug first then paint. You select the rug first because rug sizes, patterns, and your budget will limit what is available to you.

Paint has infinite choices. If you start with the paint color, you may never find the right color and pattern rug that you can afford & might end up painting the room twice.

However, I rather like the paint you currently have on the wall. You just need to finish the room with accessories.

Rugs-Direct.com has a feature that allows you to place the rug in a photo of your room. You can usually price shop for any of the rugs on the internet. Purchase a small-size rug to check for color before you commit to a large-size rug. Taking the rugs back is like moving a dead body and you want to avoid that if you can.

OMG wow thank you all YOU ARE THE BEST EVER! here are also some i found online and tried to photoshop in:

also i see how important repainting first is. gonna tackle that this week, something like BM navajo white, or maybe a little muddier - much lighter than it is now.

BeverlyFLADeziner do you have links to these rugs?

Whether you paint or buy rug first, be sure to coordinate both, but I think your paint color is fine and just needs some light accessories.

An 8x10 rug should work and suggest a more modern, lighter rug (to off set the dark flooring).

Your sofa color has a decidedly green color. Those beige rugs you are placing next to the sofa in your photoshopped images are not working in your favor. They have a red/pink undertone in color. I don't mean to offend. but a large percentage of the male population is red/green colorblind. If that applies to you then get some help with selecting colors.

Here is the online test for Red/Green Colorblind

As I mentioned earlier, the paint color you currently have on the wall works with your current seating selections. What is it you don't like?

Once you have art on the walls the large expanse of golden green paint will not seem so intense.

Definitely paint first before you get a rug. Rugs can be changed out much easier than painting an entire room.

I actually like picking a rug I love first……and than picking a paint color…that way with rugs the sky is the limit! So easy to bring home paint samples or have a custom color made…have fun!

Love bringing in navy blue wool rug..I think I would remove the paisley pillows add some dark brown and navy pillows onto your tan sofa..add light neutral to the walls…instead of white blinds I would suggest a woven Roman shade that is similar to your wood floors..maybe add some light linen curtain panels…
