Like Kudzu9, I would put a double louvered bifold doors, so that the equipment can breathe and access to the equipment is easy.

Where is this in the house ? This needs to be at least closed somehow but yes to louvered doors to be on the safe side

I'm with the other posters. A set of louvered, bi-fold doors should hide the water heater, wiring, etc. Would not recommend using solid doors as the space should be vented to the rest of the house. Good luck!

The opening is taller than normal which would probably require special order doors.

Then there is the exposed duct showing through the other opening. The photo is not showing the entire story.

Stand back and get another photo that shows what is going on with the opening on the right. And measure the actual openings and post the dimensions.

We have bi-fold doors and they work well. Had to modify to fit though. Other ideas:
