You can't just put wax on top of any wood floor.

What is the factory finish on your floors? Poly or hard wax oil?

I would call the manufacturer, or a good wood floor store that carries the brand, and ask for their opinion.

I’ve since read NOT to wax a wood but to polish it. The more I read, the more confused I become. I will just leave it alone.

Call the manufacturer's Customer Service department. And list the product for more recommendations.

Hard wax oils are the new types of wax finishes. It keeps the wood as natural looking as possible. You cannot have a high sheen though. It's less maintenance compared to regular wood wax.

I've had a site finished poly finish in 3 houses and I now have a engineered wood floor with a hard wax oil finish in the house we built last year ... and I am loving the hard wax oil finish. Not finding that it requires any more maintenance and having to oil the floors every few years is still easier than having to have the floors sanded and refinished with poly. The hard wax oil can be done in section, even in an open floor plan, but poly has to be done all at one time.

Well, I've never found Poly to be a 20 year finish in any house we have lived in! With kids and dogs you can end up with lots of scratches and there is nothing you can do, except refinish the whole floor, so you just live with the scratches.

I had heard all these negatives comments about hard wax oil floors, mostly from people who have never owned any! Glad I looked for reviews from actual owners who listed the real pros and con. I'm very happy with the hard wax oil finish on our engineered floors and how they are standing up to the 3 dogs.

You should never put any sort of wax on a poly finished wood floor. The proper long term maintenance for all poly finished flooring is to prepare and recoat. Any wax or polish applied over the exising poly may interfere with adhesion of a future poly recoat and would have to be removed prior to recoating. In addition, wax/polish generally scuffs more easily than poly and doesn't resist soiling as well, so unless you're sprucing up a floor on its last legs, it's a bad idea.
