Have you checked with a local glass shop or lumberyard? They should be able to order it for you.

Yes… they only can get it at 10ft… and I need 12ft.

@millworkman I’ve checked with my glass shop and they only can get 10ft… haven’t checked with a lumberyard though.

You might try reaching out to the Met or the Smithsonian Institution to see what they used for displaying textiles-I’m not sure if plexiglass will protect the fabric from light damage.

The examples you show look like they are framed/mounted, but do not have any glass covering them. Have you considered that option?

They could dry mount and not use plexiglass, but that is limited to the size of their machine (which is less than 12ft). Does it have to be 12ft?

Very nice. Would you not want UV protected glass to keep the fabric from fading? Not sure why plexi, but you must have your reasons.

@Allison0704 What is dry mount? Is that framing with no glass? The piece is 12ft… I didn’t want to cut it nor overlap parts of it.

Glass would be about 120 lbs for that size (36" x 120". Plexiglass will look like crap in short order. It will not stay clear for long and is not designed for that application. I would not use plexiglass to cover artwork. I only answered above as the op asked where to get it. I have ordered 12' sheets many times. I also agree with chispa that that artwork is framed with no glass.

@chispa I didn’t want dust and other particles to get on the piece once I hang it. That was my reasoning for glass/plexiglass. It is an original Kubla cloth made in Africa. I just know that I wouldn’t be able to get another one if this one is damaged. I would like to hang in my home.

I thought maybe glass/plexiglass could maybe be fused together to make 12ft…… or Do they make plexiglass doors in 12ft? How do they do tall displays in some stores?

The examples you show are probably 8 ft long. A 12 ft frame is really large, hard to transport and won't fit in many homes! You need to call larger frame shops in larger cities, maybe one that does custom work for museums.

I have a 5 ft x 5 ft old carving and even that is hard to fit in most homes ... I might have a frame shop take it apart and make smaller pieces that would be easier to hang.

Do you think a butt joint in the middle with the edges polished would be that noticeable?

Kvdjas- I’m not familiar with the exact bonding materials but my Dad was an early user of plexiglass. He used a solvent to “glue” pieces together. These bonds were very strong and not invisible but nearly so in many cases. But my thoughts are that your piece would be too long and heavy and unwieldy. I’d consider hanging this cloth away from the sun. Or, maybe (yikes, I know) cutting into 2 or more pieces. I hate that idea, but maybe it’s realistic.

Thanks so much!!!now just trying to see if I can find a vendor similar to eplastics… that doesn’t have a freight charge quite so high. The freight cost more than the acrylic. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Hi kvdjas we have used Pas-Point Glass in Pascagoula for several glass installations over our stained glass windows. Since you are in MS you may check them out and see if it would be cost effective. Super great business!

Of course, you are buying one sheet, and it is going to be in a crate 13' x 5'. takes up a bunch of space and freight has doubled the couple years.
