You usually carpet the landing as well. The installers should have done plenty of stairs and know how to do this. While I think Maureen's idea of cream looks nice, it strikes me as being very impractical for stairs as it would show dirt easily. Patterns hide dirt and wear better. After spending a considerable amount to spruce up your stairs, consider leaving them bare. Then you don't have to use a carpet sweeper on them and wood wears better than carpet. In order to completely update your stairs you also need to change the spindles.

Thank you! Yes we are changing them to a square white balister - similar to these. The only reason we are going to a landing is bc of our golden retriever dog (and it’s so noisy when it’s just wood). Thanks so much for your comments.
