For better photoshopping, can you get a closer and straight-on picture of the front door, with the whole entry (sidelights and columns) showing? From maybe the middle of the sidewalk.

I would not add shutters.

You don't need upper shutters. They will either be undersized or cover up all the siding. I'd do a bright blue for the door.

NO Shutters! Shutters should always look like they could cover the windows and with your upper windows shutters wouldn't cover them. Otherwise they look fake and pasted on.

I like your idea for a red or bright blue for the door. Your house color is neutral so any color would really work.

What is the age of the house?

That's what I thought and it's a real beauty. Don't remuddle it by putting in shutters. It wouldn't have had shutters originally.

Nope. No shutters on double windows. There’s only one window on the front that might be ok with shutters, but it would look silly because it’s an ’only.’

Absolutely NOT. Notice your double windows upstairs? Notice how those shutters would NEVER cover those windows? They add nothing. Emphasize the wonderful woodwork that is there. ln fact the shutters detract from the beauty of your house.

I assume your house is old and an example of the Colonial Revival style. If so, it would have originally had shutters for privacy and ventilation so it might come down to whether you are interested in historic restoration or in modern adaptation of the this style. (please give us the date of construction if you know it)

In the heyday of Colonial Revival houses, bi-fold shutters were used for paired windows, very wide windows and windows too close to a corner or on a curved wall.

On my 1891 house all of the shutters were bi-folds although they were not always folded.

The house was published in 1893 in Scientific American. The artist omitted some of the shutters.

If you are a purist, use bi-fold shutters or add trim to the back side to make them look like bi-folds (it's only 6 shutters). If not, omit the shutters and let it look more like a modern interpretation of the Colonial Revival style.

For the door I like medium or dark red but not fire engine red or any shade of blue.
