The old saying is to plant on St Patrick's Day, but I bury a sprouting one any time and seem to always get potatoes.... even in our climate.

I didn't get to doing that early planting, but discovered that I now have two potato plants - unfound babies from last year - coming up in the same pot as the Ground Cherries. RATS!

It seems odd that Gurney would bother to send seed potatoes so late.

I know it takes awhile to get big 'taters. Once again the saying goes that when they blossom you can dig for small potatoes. I've done this for years since I like the little ones.

If you buy some from a grocery store, be sure that they are organic potatoes.

I often get two potato crops, one from the early ones planted and another crop for those planted in July.

Potatoes are pretty easy but you want them to grow big plants before the worst of summer heat. They probably will still grow if planted late.

Haven't you had terrible problems with Gurney's in the past? I would worry what they will send you so late, I wouldn't trust them, poor quality or even later than they promise. Plant some now to make sure you get a crop. Did they already charge you? Probably.
