If its on the same switch as the room lights, it won't be on when you descend the stairs. I'd turn off the room lights and see if you need that light when descending the stairs.

Several of the room lights appear quite close to the fan. I'd turn on the fan and lights to make sure you don't have swirling shadows caused by light shining through the fan blades.

Thanks. I’ll have to see if I can tell with the room lights off. It might be hard to know without actually taking out that lightbulb.

We still need to sink the fan up with the remote but we planned the lights around that fan, so they should be ok. The blades do not cover any of the lights.

I believe current building code requires 3-way switches (top and bottom of the stairs) for the stair lights.

Yes, I would have it rewired to work with the living area. It is bothering you now and you haven't even moved it!

Thanks. It does bug me now because I’m Focusing on it. But my thoughts could be persuaded if others tell me this is normal and doesn’t seem odd. Of course that’s the easiest solution…to leave as is. Also, I want to make sure we are to code with lighting above the stairs too. But if everyone says it is odd, then I think I would push for the change. I don’t want it to look like we have a burnt out light all the time.

Its fine, and making the landing lit up while not causing shadows, I think once the room is finished and deocrated it will be a non issue. not something I would patch and repair.

To me it looks like there is a good pattern of lights in the living room without the stair light, so I don't think it's an issue. You can always change it after you move in if it still bothers you.

I would prefer a light in the corner of the room, and one over the window.

I would get the two lights by the window to work with the stair lights, this way when the stair lights are off, it is more obvious they are not part of the main lighting scheme. There seems to be enough light from the main lights to not make tat area too dark when these two lights are off.

wOlley32- That is a good option too. I was wondering about that. I think we might just sit on this for a little while and see if it bugs us once moved in with furniture. If so, then there are some other options.

IMO once all the spaces are done this will be a lot less of an issue so wait woerse case maybe a funky lamp somehwere near there .
