Well yes, I would incur the extra cost if the inspector doesn’t pass it, but I’d like to avoid the extra cost of it is not doable per the code in the first place. GC/plumber can’t point to anything specific in the code for me.

Ask the inspector. Why speculate when you can just go to the person who will make the decision and find out? Most of the inspectors I've dealt with have been extremely cooperative about such things; they'd rather deal with it up front than have to fight with you about it later.

Because there is no guarantee I get the same inspector when it is actually inspected…so if there is something or nothing in the code, I’d like to know to be able to speak with the inspector about it. I can’t find anything, but I may not be looking in the right place.
