I have lemon meringue and blueberry sundae in one of my beds. Just budding up to the point where you can see their colors starting to show. I didn't know about cherries jubilee, I'll have to keep an eye out for it :) I find them a delightful flower.

It does get pretty big and fluffy during season. I let the brush die off and sit overwinter then remove it in the spring. I let it kind of mulch itself that way. It is a bit to the back, butterfly bush is tall enough behind them. A tall peony that is proud enough to stand next to them. Irises and small bulb flowers for the most part in front of them.

I have ’Purple Smoke’ and it doesn’t flop for me. No flower pix, but I do like the seed heads.

There are several species of Baptisia. Some flop and others grow upright. Ive been growing Baptisia australis for decades and it grows upright. It reaches shrub size and I cut the foliage back on it once a year to allow other plants more sunlight. It will throw a up a few shorter shoots after pruning, but it still comes back strong every spring. My blue Baptisia is blooming now.

'Purple Smoke' makes a lovely mound after it finishes blooming.

I also have Purple Smoke in a gravel garden, along with althea cannabina, agapanthus, sedums and dieramas. It looks good from all views - I don't feel any need to hide any of it with lower growing plants as it maintains a lovely presence, whether blooming or not. I have been growing a romneya next to it, in the hopes that the silvery foliage and stunning white blooms will merge nicely with the baptisia...but the romneya remains frustratingly frail.

Here's baptisia australis used in lieu of shrubs in a commercial planting. Sorry I missed the bloom but we don't go over that way often :(

I have two of the blue ones, both in part sun. Neither has ever flopped. i have daylilies in front of them.

I also have baptista australis…..it’s actually only in morning sun….. it doesn’t flop and the flowers are deep blue-purple. In the past I have cut the pods not wanting it to spread, but this year maybe I’ll let them be so I do get some spread.
