I know I need to prune a few other side branches as well. Another question. As you know I love ficus benjamin bushy rather than tree type. For this reason I would like to keep the lower branches that I have indicated with the red arrows in these other two photos:

Since these branches are ugly to look at, I would like to shorten them. However, the leaves are only present at the end of the branch: if I cut off these few leaves, the branches will be devoid of photos. In this case, won't new leaves grow along these branches? In other words: if I have a very long branch with few leaves at the end of the branch, what should I do?

@tapla (mid-Michigan, USDA z5b-6a), I often read on the forums to avoid watering immediately after pruning the roots to avoid fungal diseases / rot. Since you recommend moisturizing the roots during pruning to prevent the thinner ones from dying, I assume that you water immediately after pruning the roots, right? You can also be very concise, I don't want to take up your time.
