I'd put a coat rack and a potted plant on the left side of the door and a bench to put sit and put your shoes on on the right side of the door (in place of the kids table:)

Looks like there is an area rug rolled up on the side.

Do you have a playroom for your children? I would try to keep the kid stuff out of the public areas... love kids, I think the adults need their space too. I think a nice hall tree and rug might be nice. The front door has no appeal... that doesn't help you.

Great suggestions so far! To give this area a sense of place, I'd lay down an area rug leading from front door into living room. Move the console table to the space where the children's table is located. Place a large/tall lamp on the left end of the table and a plant, tray/large dish to capture keys, etc. at the opposite end.

Depending on the proportion of the mirror to the console, you might try hanging it horizontally above the console, to mirror (pardon the pun) the horizontal windows. If not, just remove it from that space. I'd also add a plant or coat rack on the left side of the door. If you have room, a chair and table lamp or small table might be nice where the console is currently located. Search "entryways" or "foyers" in the image files here on Houzz and you'll get some great ideas. I'd attach some here if I could figure out how to do it.

I removed the mirror and added a print...it is hanging a bit high because of the light switch. To be honest , I don't know what size table would look good here...a normal table would go under the window and that might look funny and off center...and now the picture is so high. Should I get a tall narrow table and maybe put a lamp on it?

I will get a rug, good idea. And a plant for the left of the doorway.

A sure way of adding warmth and interest to a room is with drapery. Full-length drapery will make the windows look bigger and cozier.

Also, consider changing the hardware on the door to something like this to update it. It will make the door look less commercial and more homey.

Not sure what the stone half wall is but, if possible, remove the brown screen to have a direct view to the outside when walking into the house. Put the family pics on the console table and replace them with a lush plant to make the view from the entrance more inviting.

I noticed you already have two console tables so no point in adding another one. But you could put a bench under the bigger window (even with drapery). It would be practical and hide the heater. :)
