Adam,We have no idea what plant you are referring to without a scientific name, common name or photo?

Are you talking about lily buds? You posted in the lily forum and lily buds do kind of look like pods. Is this a new plant? Sometimes newly planted plants suffer from transplant shock. I see garden centers often sell lilies full of buds, so I am wondering if perhaps you recently bought and planted a lily. We do need more info though to help!

They are forever susans and I grew them from bulbs.

It's an asiatic lily but it may not be Forever Susan, the buds are nearly ready to bloom and they look quite yellow.

The nursery said they are forever susans, but my questions are 1. is it supposed to be yellow? 2. why are the tips of the leaves turning brown?

Forever Susan is not yellow, so, whatever Lily you have it isn't that one, whatever the nursery said. If they were bought loose, rather than in a package, bulbs do get mixed up. The brown leaf tips may be due to irregular/insufficient watering but they don't really matter because they will die back later in the season and the whole plant will go dormant for the winter. If you place your lilies amongst other plants you won't even see the leaves.
