Re-imagined backsplash subway tiles

What do you think of turning the subway tiles on end? No one I talk to is keen on this idea. but I dont like the standard subway tiles. I have white shaker cabinets with Bianco Antico countertops. I will include pics of my kitchen as well as a pic of the tiles I want standing up. The inspiration pic is what I love and already have the tiles.

that's called a vertical stack-set. It's perfectly fine, although it does give off a more modern vibe.

Check out the Bedrosians tiles. they have some really nice options.

This is Sand Dollar from their Marin line. good color if you want something light.

if you're going to do the stack, you prob don't want anything longer than a 10". 2x6,2x8 3x9 would work.

here's a zellige tile in a horizontal stack set

you could do a herringbone layout. this charcoal tile would look very nice w/your granite

and I love this zellige tile. comes in many colors. w/your granite, I think I'd try something like this

This off white one is a glazed brick.

Cloe tile in a 5x5 is also nice

*I'm* keen on the idea. It shows more imagination than following what 'they' all are putting in their kitchens. Go for it!

Beth H! what can i say! I had no idea of all of the beautiful tile design layouts. I’m liking the stack offset as well. im going to look into that Arizon tile. love the color with my counters and the herringbone layout! thank you so much! That was so helpful!

Herringbone is classic. Don’t listen to what “everyone else” is doing. Subway tiles can be really interesting, as Beth showed you.

You said you have the tiles. The size matters when planning what installation pattern you like.

size always matters ;

for a herringbone, you want the width and length divisible by each other. usually. and nothing too long. prob 10" max. maybe a 12" if you get a 2"wide. but I would shoot for a 2x8,3x9 size.
