To trim or not to trim?
I’m wondering if the double sided stone fireplace looks fine without having a dark wood stained profile trim/molding between the rock and drywall section. Before I added the art, it looked unfinished to me, now I’m not sure adding trim would make a significant difference. If I do ad a trim piece I was thinking of echoing the mantle profile but of course stain it to match the ceiling and window trim. Thanks in advance for your kind suggestions. I don’t want to rock the rest of the wall as the center stone fireplace structure is 8’ wide by 5’ deep and I doubt I’d like it going all the way to the ceiling. TIA!

Added different art…still contemplating painting the area above a different color.
PRO2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoPatricia is spot on here, you need to draw attention away from the odd top section, so no artwork above the stone. Rather, you need your eyes to focus on the fireplace itself by adding more dramatic fireplace accessories. Here are the 3 options Patricia suggests shown with appropriate accessories.
Oh, and BTW: No trim in answer to your actual question.
Option #1: Paint upper section to blend with the stone. Add a Custom Wrought Iron Single Panel Fireplace Screen with Matching Andirons.
Option #2: Build the wall out to the end of the stone and add a Custom Wrought Iron 3 Panel Fireplace Screen with Andirons

Not in love with the mesh screen for the fireplace but it works for now. We do have amazing mission andirons. I think a nice dark brown color paint above the stone would be nice, thank you. I do like the ledge because it gives me a place to hang garland during Christmas. I didn’t want stone to the ceiling because the width of the fireplace is nearly 9’ by 5’ and it also would’ve added so much more visual and structural weight than I cared for. Thanks for your thoughts on the trim, I think I agree.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and example of alternative screens for the fireplace. Well, we tried to find skilled masons to continue the stone to the ceiling. After sending out literally nearly 100 requests, we received two in reply and they were both over 20,000 to complete the work. In response, I spent two days only a couple hours each, and repainted the area for less than $100. Thanks all for your input.
