You brighten the room with more lighting. Are there any overhead fixtures? Can you do a quick floorplan so suggestions can be made for floor and side lamps, if needed?

My advice on mirrors is only use them if there is something of interest being reflected. My other suggestion is to increase the lighting in your room. It is far too dark as it is now.

You need more lumens! Multiply room width by length, then multiply total by 20 (20 is recommended for living rooms). Keep adding floor lamps, table lamps, and wall sconces until you reach the total lumens number. Use wall dimmer switch, use 3 way light bulbs to brighten for reading or darken for mood or TV viewing. Center the sofa and hang a mirror, but If mirror won’t reflect the DR window or DR art, then hang large art and flank with floor lamps or wall sconces. Why does the sofa face the DR? Instead try floating sofa where the club chair is. Getting the solid sofa off the solid will give the room an airier feel. Replace the dark wall unit on left with a lighter color wood - or metal frame - unit with open shelves, or paint it, or sand it down and use a lighter stain on it. If you have the budget, replace the visually chunky puffy dark recliner sofa and chair with visually lighter more tailored/streamlined style in a lighter color upholstery.

Is it possible to center love seat and add side tables/lamps. Bonus, you get more light and wall will feel more balanced. With floor lamp moved, another part of the room will also be lightened. Suggest colorful art and complementary cushions vs a mirror, for more interest.

I think you can simply get a different light bulb and get more light into the living room.

Move the floor lamp and the sofa to the right so you have some reasonalble wall space to mount an art canvas on the wall or metal wall decor.

One quick note, the opening at the top of the photo is a loft. We'll eventually be adding a ladder that will take up the wall space next to the tall lamp, so it really can't be moved to the right.  The foot print is very odd.

I see what you're saying. The ladder is the challenge...then move the arrangement out away from the wall so the ladder doesn't cramp the seating.

If you move the seating out, the rug would need to be moved but it can't because it's square. Consider a rectangular rug. You will need to decide which way to orient it...you have room either way based on the photos.

What about trying an art piece over the loveseat, instead of a mirror. You might also consider using more lamps to increase the light in your living room. See a few of our designs, included below, for more ideas on lighting and artwork.

Here are my suggestions.

As suggested by someone else, move the 2-seater sofa, lamp and club chair to the right.

You'll then have room for a narrow side table (shown black metal from Pottery Barn).

Bring in light coloured accessories, I show black & white accent pillow, throw, and table accessories. A light coloured area rug would also brighten the room as well as the extra lamp and the side table. I show a black metal wall decor but a framed picture with a light background would also look good. Make sure all your lightbulbs are soft white Led.
