I need to gut my bathroom (hence the missing sink). Help Please!

I need to gut my hall bathroom. My 11 year old twins share this bathroom and it’s the only bathroom on the main floor other than the master bathroom. It is also our only bathtub. The bathroom does not have a window but it has a skylight and the hallway has multiple windows. I would love some design ideas. Thank you!!!

Is there something specific you dislike about it or want to change? It looks quite nice overall, apart from having styles that are a bit dated. If it were my bathroom, I'd just reface the vanity and put on new hardware, replace the top/sinks and the medicine cabinet mirror, and replace the shower glass with a more modern style. Then paint in a color they like. You could do that all relatively inexpensively. I would personally not do anything more at this stage for a bathroom whose primary users are 11-year-olds, at least based on the state of the bathroom my tweens share! Unless there are problems with the existing tile/floor or fixtures, I'd wait to do much more than that.

Search through Houzz Photos for "bathrooms" and you will see thousands of ideas. Save the ones you like to an Ideabook. Then review the Ideabook to see if there are some common elements in the photos that you have saved. When you save a photo you can write a comment, so if you liked the shower tile, then write "nice shower tile". It helps when reviewing photos and looking for a specific one!

I think we need more info. IMO the space is very dated and honestly how often do the kids use the tub? This seems to be quite a laerge space and we need a to scale floor plan to know what you are working with and more info as to how the boys share the space . I do not think natural light in a bathroom is a must but good ventilation is for sure . Post the plan to scale all measurements clearly marked post here in a comment do not start another post . Then post the info also in a comment here

It is a large bathroom 9’ x 9’ and yes its dated but also falling apart. I’ve been patching it since we bought the house 5 years ago. The faucet broke and the sinks are old, so standard faucets do not fit. I need new sinks and new faucets. the vanity was a custom build so it needs to be replaced with the sinks. The fan/vent stopped working, the lights need to be replaced with LED because I am in Ca. The shower does work but the tiles are badly cracked. The wood floor has some water damage and I need a new toilet. Its primarily the kids bathroom but it is also the only bathroom for guests (visitors) unless they go through the master bedroom or downstairs to the daylight basement/study and bathroom. We do not have a half bath. The bathroom is 9’ x 9’ not including a built in medicine cabinet. One of my kids does use the tub (likes to read in the bath). Sometimes i take a bath too.

Also the tile on the vanity also goes into a backspash and the walls are currently tiled half way up with the same tile. I want to keep the layout but I am hoping for some ideas for flooring and colors.

Hi Jill, I definitely agree with you getting it would be the best thing. You could certainly get a tub very reasonably that fits into that existing location and I think it would look spectacular. What looks really amazing is the synthetic marble slabs. Probably would be interesting on the shower portion above the tub and maybe even the sink countertop? Also, you could get a premade vanity with two Undermount sinks as one unit. It doesn’t look like you would have much plumbing work if the locations will be the same and electrical should be fairly straightforward. What are you budgeting if I may ask?

Gutting any bath involves the same things. The more plumbing moves involved? The more money involved so accurate planning is needed.

Draw the bathroom. Note especially the size of the former custom vanity and the SINK centers. Not the end of the world to move them, but if not a custom vanity to replace this one? You may have to . Finishes such as vanity paint or stain, plumbing fittings, etc

come after : ) Do the homework first, and post a drawing. Add inspo's of baths you love, fine! But...you need to begin in the right place.

If the vanity is not damaged, and can be painted ? Keep it with new tops and sinks/faucets and paint it. Pick a porcelain floor tile you'd also like to see on tub WALLS ....start with all that in mind.Along with a budget.
