Well, cork is soft and warm underfoot. It does not like water, but will withstand a damp mop. There are many brands, not so many tones, and several patterns. Good article on pros and cons:

If you were going to choose porcelain, I would have voted for the lighter gray, 3rd sample down. But, that could be a bit dangerous, as a visitor may not distinguish between the kitchen floor and the same color one step down.

Cork comes in several designs, a fair amount of colors, a low to high quality.

If you got a one that doesn't resemble a plank floor, went with the ceiling and had as Carly Simon says "clouds in your coffee" of the kitchen floor, it would work.

Will look great with the sofa color.

I wish I had chosen an indoor/outdoor carpet installed wall to wall in our bedroom. I went instead with beautiful wool rug and it has faded. Give this idea a thought

We have a cabin in the Georgia mountains. Both bathroom floors are tile and extremely cold in the winter. And they never warm up.

I appreciate this. I think I like the first. I’m awaiting larger tiles, and appreciate all thought. I can’t afford to remove kitchen floor, so I’m trying not to make an error with the next move. I’m concerned about the comfort, coolness of porcelain, but there is a heated basement below.

While the slate suggested looks fabulous, your dog’s nails will mark it up! (Think of how slate pencils “scratched” letters on children’s slates in the 18th and 19th centuries!).

I would go with the top, light neutral color. It will brighter up your whole space! Lots of luck!

I had a slate floor for 14 yrs. with a dog. unless you let your dogs nails grow to ridiculous lengths, they won't hurt the slate floor. (and you really should trim the toenals of all your animals just so they're comfortable)

And, since slate isn't dense like marble or harder stone, it feels the same temp as the rest of the room. in other words, it isn't cold on your bare feet like marble or granite would be. I loved my slate floor. easy to clean/mop. I sealed it every 5 yrs or so.

Plus, I'm sure you will throw down a rug or two, so most the floor will be protected.

You could look into a limestone, or a porcelain w/limestone look

make sure to get a large format like this 24x24 (30x30) rather than a 12x24. the latter tends to look busier once laid out.

This is a porcelain terrazzo look from my local tile place. I love this tile. comes in quite a few colors. the white or that black would look sharp

Want more earthy shades? this is the Rizo tile, 24x24. I have used this on prior projects. it's a very nice tile that comes in multiple colors. (grays/greige and a charcoal)

From the options you've shown, I am partial to the lightest one. Although, if they have a plain one in between the top light one and the 2nd one that is darker it might look better. I think the 2nd one is a little too dark. I'm not a fan of things that look too busy so plain would probably be good. It all depends on your style. Personally, I prefer vinyl plank or vinyl tile over real tile. Doesn't crack as easily and I despise grout. It's also warmer and softer to walk on. I've seen I think Lifeproof brand has some vinyl tiles that look like porcelain and marble. I'd have to check my photos on my phone to see what brand it was that I saw. It was in one of the big box stores. I think Lowes but I've been in both Lowes and Home Depot recently looking for things and my memory sucks.

Lots of good options. Not sure where you're located but if you can find a flooring company, not a big box store, they can offer solutions.

Shaw floors has a lot ofoptions in vinyl that are not wood like and look nice. Pooch a poo will have a hard time destroying them.

@Beth H gave great options. Having experienced a stone floor for the first time, I am hooked. However, I wouldn't install one without radiant heating underneath. Ours is electric, no pipes, just wires. The temperature can be adjusted. Right now in late July it's off and seems to cool the room. When it's on in winter, it's marvelously warm.

@Lisa, our basement is heated, but the porcelain floors upstairs are always cold. If you decide on porcelain, spend the money for radiant heat.

It’s funny … each one works better in a different place. I’m not sold on either at the moment. I am SO very grateful for the insight that has been shared with me. The lighting is a big factor too. It’s hard to share exactly what I’m seeing here, but I’m soaking in all the input! Thanks!
