Help me pick a rug!

I made the mistake of throwing our mudroom rug into the dryer on regular heat and the rubber backing all flaked off. So while I'm cleaning that up, please help me pick a new rug! Thinking ruggable so I can avoid this problem in the future. We live in snow country so the rug will get dirty in the winter. My problem is my floor - I love it but I'm having a hard time coordinating with it.

The rest of my house has a lot of blue/brown/camel tones. Adjacent to this space the flooring is medium/dark wood and cabinets are mission oak stained. Our lockers are an off-white so they don't quite match our trim (pure white), but it was a lot cheaper than builtins so there you have it.

This is probably not what you want to hear but I’d paint the lockers whatever color you like then buy a rug to coordinate.

Have you had a ruggable before? They sent me my money back for mine as the rug part was bigger than the mat part and the edges kept curling up. Tripping hazard.

I haven't had a ruggable before but have heard mostly positive reviews.

I'm not against painting the lockers but it's a huge job and I'm a full time working mom so my time for diy projects is rather limited. It's a bit amazing I found time to build those lockers tbh.

check ballarddesigns.com rugs on sale this week they have indoor/outdoor rugs I have a runner in my kitchen & 4x6 in mud room that work well

Is there an argument for extendng the floor covering down the hallway to the left? Do you having any feeling for FLOR tiles? Might work and be very durable and easy to switch out a tile if it gets too dirty.

My only other suggestion is to center the unit on the wall, which will still leave space for the switch plate

If you're afraid of clashing with the lockers, you could look at painting them. Otherwise a rug with some blue and cream might work well. Here are two rug ideas for you from various designs of ours.

    Are you still looking?

Actually yes, I am. I was looking at ruggable. Need to pick something soon since it might snow here next week! Ack.

I'm not worried about clashing with the lockers. More with the floor.

I love FLOR tiles and bought a bunch to use as elderly dog path…. The backing is a rubber product so not compatible with all flooring types—be sure to check. Also lots of melting snow could be wicked between tiles but you can get extra and switch out as needed. My son has Ruggables and has worked pretty well. It was the only rug product thin enough to allow his front door to swing over it (very little free depth). They worked great for a year or so then top part needed replacement. I get wool rugs for my entrances and spot clean as needed. Darker colors heavily patterned would be my recommendation.

This one is nice but would show more dirt…

    Something more modern…

@Missy Bee I was hesitant about pattern because of the tiles I have but I really like that first rug you posted! Our decor leans a bit transitional so that would fit well. Thanks!!! Good to see them in the space. The first rug I picked had too much going on and was a different shade of gray so it really didn't work.

I have had good success with patterned traditional look wool and Smartstrand rugs. Karastan has Smart-strand rugs that are worth a look.
