Empty space behind upper corner cabinets

Is the triangular space behind upper corner kitchen cabinets supposed to remain open. if so, should there at least be schluter trim on the top of the backsplash? I can’t seem to find any answers on an internet search.

You could close it off if you want, but in the normal use of the kitchen you will never see it. Cut a piece of thin plywood white and tack it up there and caulk it in place. In 99% of kitchens with this style of corner cabinet it will not be closed off.

Totally normal way to finish this off. My first choice would have been to skip an angled corner upper cabinet and just follow the straight lines of the lowers.

If your uppers are placed 18" to 20" above your 36" high counters, then no one can see this space.

Great place to hide some things ...

If you have seating nearby, it'll be visible. I'd cover it like Hallet suggests.

I also want to see a wider shot of your tile. It looks interesting!
