5000K inside a residence is going to be very harsh. 5000 is recommended for warehouses and public garages:

We grew up with white light and loved it.

When we moved to our current home, this was one of the first things we did.

My question was more about Lumen and the size of the recess lights (4" vs 6")

Unless you are a teenager, I don't think you grew up with 5000K lighting. Incandescent is 2700K, most fluorescent used to top out a little over 4000K.
