Such a beautiful room! I would go for a colorful rug with a pattern since you have a lot of brown and wood tones. Something from their Persian, Vintage, Morris, Bohemian collections in warm colorways--reds, greens, golds, etc. Stay away from grays and blues.

IMO your wall color is fighting the ceiling color and a new rug isn't going to fix that.

Painting the walls a charcoal gray could help the overall appearance.

Eliminate all the up-light torchiers. The quality of that light doesn't help the overall appearance. Floor lamps with translucent shades are your friend.

I'd be totally depressed to be surrounded by gray walls. I think a rug will in fact ground the room and let the ceiling be what it is. It's a very nice room.

MY big issue is the ceiling/ wall color disconnect . ON my monitor I see beige walls and a real stark white ceiling not a good combo. I think maybe a shage could work and some real art not posters in this nice space .Please take that clock away and use it somehwere not in the space where you entertain IMO

You are correct about the ceiling/wall colors. But it’s a rental so I don’t want to do any painting. the clock is actually there to cover up a stupidly placed outlet. I didn’t find any art that I liked and it was the best thing that I could come up with. Open to suggestions! thanks

Oh, I wish you would have led into your story with the rental issue. At any rate, keep the light from bouncing OFF the ceiling. It just makes it look worse. If the ceiling is darker the walls will be less of an issue.

Again, you didn't ask but hearing your answer of why the clock is there which BTW, I think looks fine, I thought of one of my favorite pieces of outdoor art. This is in Petaluma, CA on the Petaluma Gas and Electric building. You could mock up a huge outlet to cover the outlet. 😄
