I have had a Wolf gas range for 18 years now. It's time to choose a new range for a second home and I am leaning toward Wolf once again (36"). You get what you pay for in my opinion when it comes to Wolf. They are such workhorses and so solidly built (I noticed the Wolf is 110 pounds heavier than the other possible choice, Thermador when comparing them). There was a recall on my 18 year model, they fixed it back then but the problem has shown up again recently. Wolf is standing by their product and sending me the part for free. They didn't have to do that all these years later. Standing by their product, that matters to me.

hello im going to change my kitchen and I've been searching all the way for opinions that help me choose if i go with wolf or thermador, the company that are helping me says that thermador is the best but also im going to put a subzero fridge so i don't know if i put subzero and thermador would look messy (one thing of one brand and other thing of another brand you know?) if you guys can tell me one more opinion of these two that would be awesome!

I am not sure where you are located but I would check out where the closest service provider is for Wolf vs. Thermador. If you do not have a service provider close by that would eliminate certain brands for me. You will need a repair at some point. Also, having different brand appliances (especially in the high end brands where Subzero and Wolf are paired together) is fine in my opinion as long as they are of similar style (all stainless with similar handle styles for example). As for choosing Wolf vs. Thermador I am a Wolf devotee. I am also suspicious as to why Thermador has to give away dishwashers to sell their ranges. Wolf doesn't have to offer constant promotions like that, Makes me wonder why they have to entice people to buy their product. Good luck choosing a brand. If you rely upon all the numerous reviews, you will end up buying nothing. For every good review, there is a bad review. It can be so frustrating. After reading so many, I had to just stop looking at them. Instead, I ended up looking at the history of recalls on the appliances (cpsc.gov) to see who had the best track record over time. And that is why I settled on Wolf (again).

Dear Susan thank you so much for the comment it was really helpful and also you are so right! i think im going with Wolf, that give away of Thermador its so suspicious as you said and i also incline for Wolf because they have more experiences i think, in the industry so..., the only thing that i don't like about Wolf are those red knobs of plastic but well i guess it had to be that way, again Susan, thank you so much for your comment, if anybody has more comments please let us know what is your opinion.

Poke at them in person - I find both Wolf and Viking have some aspects that feel 'cheap' that I don't like in a high end appliance. So far I'm leaning towards Miele but I haven't worked through the full list of options yet.

I will not be getting a grill, though - most folks I know who have that option just don't use it because even with a good hood, it produces a lot of smoke and fumes and they'd rather just have an outdoor grill to use for proper grilling.

Alberto - you have to pay extra but they have stainless steel and black knobs as options. I never liked the red ones either and ordered the black knobs. But I know some people think those red knobs are what make it a Wolf. Again, everyone has an opinion.

Susan and Alberto, I have been looking at ranges, and both Thermador and Wolf are giving away diswashers right now. After talking to sales people, I also found out that the slide out rack in the Wolf cost $150. more...that's not very nice for a high end range co. to do that ...it's standard on the Thermador. Just those little things that can bug me and help make my decision. The burners are amazing on the Thermador!

Do not buy anything Thermador!!! They stop making parts after 7 years and now we are left with a 48" range that only partially works because we can't get the parts. We can now only use 1 of the two ovens and only 4 of the 6 burners. This company should be ashamed of themselves, leaving their customers to deal with this and wasting money on buying new products because they decided they wanted to stop making parts. I will never buy a Thermador again and neither should you if you don't want to waste your money

Too late for me Kathy Cohen, I already bought a the Thermador. I do love it so far but do hope I don't run into your situation down the line. We have a tendency to keep appliances for a long time. I'm going to check into that 7 yr thing, it just doesn't sound right to me.

Hello! I have enjoyed reading this thread as I am also comparing the Wolf vs. Thermador with Steam oven for my new house. I'm interested in learning about the steam oven on the Thermador. My mother in law has a Thermador and I love cooking on it and I love the star burners but she does not have the seam oven. I am really leaning towards the Thermador because of the new Steam oven and because I also love the idea of have a warming drawer. I wold love to hear more about the Wolf vs. the Thermador.

We have the same issue than Kathy Cohen - Thermador 48" and can't get parts from them. Kathy have you tried to turn off your breaker for your range for 15 mins. It will reset the computers and it might work again ( for a while). I am looking for a new range - can't decide Wolf or Viking!

Where there is smoke there is usually a fire. Try searching on the Thermador lack of parts issue on Houzz and you will read about many others who claim they are unable to get replacement parts after a period of time so they are forced to replace the product. Maybe they are all making it up for some reason (a secret conspiracy against Thermador?) but there are so many saying the same thing I have to think there is a grain of truth in there. Personally, I talked to my range repair guy when he was servicing my 20 year old Wolf and I was in the market for my new range (for a house out of state so he would not have a stake in repairing it one way or another) about Thermador vs. Wolf. He said he has serviced them both for years and would avoid the brand in part because he said they stop making some of the parts after a period of time. I bought a 36" Wolf LP Range and I do not regret my decision.

So we went to a Wolf dealer and were ready to buy the 48 " range, BUT after inspecting the ovens decided not to . What a disappointment the size of the oven was. It is so small compare to the Thermador 27". So back to searching, now looking at the Blue Star 48" . Any complaints on that?

I see alot of comments about Thermador no longer making their parts after 7 years. While this MAY be true, I have had a Thermador 36 inch cook top for 11 years and never had an issue. However since am selling my home I wanted to clean it up a little. Replace the cooktop pan, star burners etc..Not because they are no longer working, want it to look more new for my home sale. I went on the internet and their are places where you can get this items. I had not issue.

I, like most everybody, did extensive research when remodeling our kitchen. Friends and family had had Thermador for years with no bad experiences. However, pretty much all online reviews of all appliances are bad. It is very difficult to trust any of them. I still haven’t heard details of the aforementioned hard to get parts for a 7 year old stove. Which part? Which stove?

Hi everyone, I just remodeled my kitchen and had originally chosen the SubZero Fridge 48" and 48" Thermador Range. The sales gal was ridiculously persistent and said I was making a huge mistake going with Thermador. I ultimately ended up purchasing the Wolf. It has been installed for less than 60 days and two things have malfunctioned. The customer service has been excellent, but I am really terrified I got a lemon. I have been in constant contact with the salesperson, and I asked her if there was any possibility of me turning the Wolf in for a Thermador. She said, "not any more, since the 30 days was up." I have spoken with Wolf and they want to have the repairs done to see if the problem is resolved. Now, every time I turn around I hear how much happier Thermador owners are ;( I appreciate reading the positive reviews about Wolf...it gives me hope. Especially since it looks like I am stuck with this appliance. Ugh.

My house is under construction, I am having difficulty choosing between, sub-zero, thermador and viking built-in refrigerator.

I have a 30” Thermador and love it. Sub-Zero is a great brand too.

The parts I am looking for are for the small side oven and the two burners that have simmer features- parts 00487327, 00487241 and 00497234 which includes parts 422748 and 422882

So far it seems all of the above talk has focused on Dual Fuel (gas cooktop and electric ovens) but what about all gas? We have had a 48" Blue Star all gas for 10 years. We can still cook if electricity goes out and I feel the gas gives a moister environment to foods, especially baked goods such as cakes and muffins. There is alos a drastic price differential between a dual fuel vs all gas. For instance, Wolf 48" dual fuel is $13,770 (6 burners and griddle), while their all gas is $10,930. ($2840 less!)

I have an all gas (propane) 36" Wolf Range (I also have one in another house I own). I looked at the dual fuel option last year when I bought this range but decided against it. I do a fair amount of baking and I personally like gas for baking despite what others have said about electric being "better" for baking. And it also helped that the price difference was so much higher for dual fuel. I think all gas is the way to go especially for roasting meat.

I had a Thermador double oven and the digital light panel went out after about 3 years. I called the company and although they didn't want to replace free of charge. I talked to a few supervisors and they ended up replacing on them. Then about 3 or 4 years later the same thing happened. This time when I called they informed me that they no longer make this part and that I would have to replace the double oven. Really? You pay all that money for high-end appliances and they only last 7 years? Not even an option to repair? Unacceptable

I love my Thermidor range top, but the dual fuel ovens are mediocre in my opinion. If I had to do it over again, I would have done a Thermidor range top and a different brand of wall ovens. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy the Thermador built-in coffee system. Our's latest 3 years and now requires repairs nearing $2K and 2 appliance repairmen have since told us from their experience this is about their lifespan. I'm going Miele to replace the coffee system.

has anyone purchased a thermidor all gas range without self cleaning which evidently is the standard for all gas? How difficult is it to clean?

I picked Viking for one reason only, and I'm glad I did. Their professional range has single grates. Everyone else has double grates and they are extremely heavy that way. The singles are much easier to pick up and clean!

Sherri, I believe you are talking about the Thermador oven? No problems here, just use oven cleaner if it's real bad, but other than that, just a sponge with the scrubber on one side. My old oven's electrical components were fried by the built in oven cleaner. Never again will I buy an oven with electrical junk on it. Love my Thermador! The top burner area is no problem either, I just use dish soap and my sponge.

The oven bakes beautifully, and the stove top is awesome as well. I love the extra low simmer feature on the front burner. It's all easy to use, and I love the hefty professional look too.

I put a Thermajor 48" double oven with 6 burners and griddle (all gas) in my home in 2005. It was the bomb! My brother the chef wanted to know why I could have one and he couldn't. Finally got back at him for our growing up years. Ha! My husband hooked up the generator when we lost power and the voltage regulator wasn't working properly. I told him I thought we should make sure that all of the breakers with electronics (including my precious range) were flipped off, but he said it would be fine. Well, it wasn't and it fried the board. I had to have it replaced, which wasn't cheap, but it was do-able. We sold the house a year ago and one of the burners would no longer light. We called service and were told that they could not fix it. At least the new owners still have five burners and a griddle, but it could not be repaired. That being said, I love the non-stainless griddle. It was awesome and it always looked great and was easy to clean. I am considering buying another one even though I know about the issues with service after 14 years. But I LOVED IT!

I am so glad to hear that. I am in the process of building an apartment over the garage and I am once again considering Wolf vs. Thermador. I may just give Thermador a try this time after having had two Wolf ranges.

I am choosing between Wolf appliances and Thermador 48" 6 burner with induction grill. I am having a very hard time deciding. I was told by both stores that Thermador's Range was voted number 1 in consumer report and that the Thermador cooks better. I love the look of the Wolf much better its prettier in my opinion not sure I want to pay $16,000 for a Range I don't find beautiful. This is a very hard decision. I was also told Wolf 48" can take up to 1 year to arrive.

Wait for the Wolf. You will not regret it.

Have heard that the Wolf has problems with the blue lining inside coming off and flaking into food.

Looks like there is or was a class action lawsuit against wolf range for the blue chipping. Not sure if they have solved this problem or not. Would like to know before I order.

I may be changing my mind now.

Everyone that I know has a Wolf and has not had this issue though.

Had both now and Wolf is hands down way better than my Thermador. I ordered Wolf oven and was told 12 months and it came in 6 months and range was 4 months.

Same Thermador problem with unavailable parts as others have mentioned. It's criminal that the company forces purchaces of a <$10K-$14K> range with planned obselenence of parts. Who'd want to buy from them again!!!

All the debating is good. Every person has their esthetical tastes. Don't be swayed by other's ideas of art or the art of kitchen designs. What is worse than not being able to replace something damaged on a range top or oven? It's happened to me and I've been putting off making the wrong decision but today I'm coming down on the side of WOLF and I also love their style, it's what historical design is made of. My opinion is the people using today's WOLF in 30 or more years will agree with that. And if the company stands tall they will still be servicing all repair issues.

Love my Viking but did a didferent brand fridge subzero

Planning a home reno in Ft Myers. No natural gas available. Considering induction cooktop as part of a bundle with fridge, wine cooler, MW, hood and DW. Any suggestions as most of the big 3 (Wolf/Sub Zero, Viking, and Thermador) seem to be better known on the gas range/cooktop side.

Help appreciated.

Hi Craig Martin, I was also looking into induction for safety and convenience, and since the home was originally with an electric stove top. But looking into the induction system of electrical transmission I found induction has possible electrical leakage of harmful EMFs. According to health guidelines, pregnant women shouldn't come close to induction cooktops or stoves because of the baby's health concerns. Personally speaking, I know of the harms of high-voltage EMF usage. Because of this, I wouldn't ever buy anything with induction. Hope things work for you best in Ft. Myers, my brother loved it there.
