Even after some nights in the teens (15°F) I’m still harvesting kale and it is getting sweeter.

I have some brussels sprouts that are now wimpy...also some bok choi.

Mainly I have been mulching leaves and spreading them on the garden and tilling them in. I finished that yesterday. I chopped 4 bales of straw with the mower and spread them on the strawberries as a base covering. I still have 4 more [without chopping] to spread over that.

Oh, I have some tillage radishes as a cover crop after sweetcorn.

Brassicas, carrots, onions doing well. Had trouble with germination of winter peas. Replanted

Nice looking veggies Farmerdill, wish my cabbages looked that far along and healthy. We did get 0.75" of rain 2 nights ago which helped with the drought conditions and wildfire dangers. Still about 8" behind for the year. My spring spinach seed is all up now too. Thx for the reports! More to come I hope :-)

One in central OK , the other in eastern OK'

Shogoin turnips in the foreground., some replantings of more turnips , onions and other greens through my hot dry fall. , some toasted cowpeas after my first hard freeze.

Spring planted collard patch in the back that survived the dry heat and grass hoppers through the summer/fall. In front is fall onions to the right ,garlic to the left and a short row of spinach in between.

Purple Top turnips in front , behind is more fall onions and repeated replantings of turnips both left and right. Empty spaces are failed plantings of spinach , collards , kale , mustard.( because of dry heat and grasshoppers throughout my fall there).

I was wanting to put a low tunnel through here but with repeated replantings things got spread out where I didn't want them , didn't get the greens mix that I wanted anyway.

You can really see the effects of low sun angle on these plantings.

I had a hard time with fall plantings in the east garden because of dry heat and grasshoppers and only being there on weekends (I have to drive a 100 some miles to it every weekend).

It's my belated parents garden that I try to keep going.

my central OK garden is doing better , am in the process of putting up low tunnels over it , ( if the winds will let me ).

Looks like a major rain storm hitting here tomorrow and we may well top over 2". In fact most of the east coast will get super soaked plus with high wind/flood warnings over a large area of states, glad it's not a Nor'easter snowstorm. Picked a lot of carrots yesterday and finished picking all of the turnips. The collards are doing very well and the cabbages are finally heading up better. The spring spinach is nearing it's first true leaf stage. After clearing the turnips out I prepped that plot with organic fertilizer (Gardentone) and covered it in leaves, it will be planted with peas next March.

They're calling for one to three inches here. We need it but . . . .

Whew, we ended up with 3.75" of rain topped off with 1.5" of snow by sunrise, enough to ice up the windshield hard as nails but spared the roads. This should help the wells here but we're still behind by >4". A dry week ahead and down in the 20's most nights so don't forget to dump the gauges. Deer have been nibbling at the pansies so I spread some repellant around them and the veggie garden. The local weatherdude predicts 18" of snow this winter, I'm satisfied with today's 1.5",.... ready for Spring now.

Looks like another 3-4" of rain knocking on the door here, a repeat of last weekend which should pretty much end the dry spell. The entire east coast will share in this rain bounty. Meanwhile the carrots, collards, and cabbages are holding on. Picked a bunch of collards yesterday before it got too muddy out there. Hopefully the remaining carrots won't spilt open but many of them are still young in size.

A bit late to this, but from Sep.- May is the best growing season for me.

I have tomatoes that are setting fruit and some may even start ripening soon, I hope. We just had a serious storm pass through last night, and I was worried about the wind and rain, but the tomatoes look fine today - I'm glad they're not taller and top-heavy.

I also have an earthbox full of leaf lettuces that I dragged onto our porch in a wagon so it wouldn't get torn up. Some is already looking like it's bolting too. I have another earthbox full of basil that's hanging in there, tho it's starting to flower.

I'm really behind on some things - I have snap peas and pole beans I wanted to get started weeks ago, but life keeps delaying me.

I have a Key/Mexican lime that seems to be everbearing, tho not in large amounts. It's been giving me a fruit or 3 every few weeks.

Something keeps digging holes in the hay mulch all around my tomatoes - pretty sure it's possums, but not sure what they're digging for. I do have grubs, but I thought I got most of 'em when prepping the bed. Do possums eat earthworms? I have some wire fencing I need to put up around the tomatoes soon. That will help deter the possums.

And finally, I have 2 bunches of bananas growing, but they're still pretty small. They seem to take forever.

The local drought is now over for sure, we got another 3.25" of rain which erased our 8" deficit for the year. In fact, this Dec is now the 3rd wettest on record here and we're just 1" behind the record holder. We can easily become #1 with 11 days to go, maybe next Tues we will bust that record. Too cold and wet outside to do much other than to start pruning the fruit trees, trimmed most of one pear tree today. Have picked one cabbage, it's only about softball size and the others (4) are still not there yet. The mid-20's at night are slowing everything down but the collards still look good and I'll be digging up more carrots once the ground dries out a bit.
