Many years ago, during a remodel of our kitchen, we removed an electric range and replaced with a gas cooktop over a wall oven. Flash forward to present and we’re looking to replace our gas cooktop with an induction one. I’m being told that we need to run a second 220 wire for the induction cooktop. That may be a deal breaker given that it would not be an easy install.

I asked the appliance installer why a second line was needed when the wiring in place used to support an electric range that had both a cooktop and an oven. He said, ”That’s a good question.”
