Need help finding a king bedspread

I am currently using a king duvet for our bedroom. But I really don’t like how skimpy it is. I’d rather try a roomy bedspread over a plain comforter. I don’t want a comforter set. The art is orangy red primitive cave art. I like cabin look so no frilly stuff!
Any ideas?

I’ve looked at a lot. All seem so blah.

These are from Levtexhome.com and thought they kind of compliment with the warm woods.

It's all how you assemble the bed. Sure you can throw a bedspread on the bed, but what exactly would make that interesting? I think a duvet is still the right direction for this bed.

here are a few of the Pendletons

Your room made me think of a duvet cover that I love from cuddledown.

I am not a big fan of duvet covers, preferring coverlets or quilts. Duvet covers just feel messy or unfinished to me. I like the quilting, but that is personal preference.

If you don't mind the price tag, handmade Amish Quilts are wonderful. I have only gotten them at the local Amish auctions where they are not as pricy as the ones online.

The duvets always look good but they are all too small even king size.
Like the Etsy ones. How can I find them?
Pendletons are blankets, right? Would still be too small? I have Hudson Bay blankets on twins in another bedroom
    Thanks for the suggestions.

@Sue, you can check the Pendleton site. Two of ones I showed above are coverlets and they do have a “bedspread” section on site so you could check for dimensions to be sure if you like any of the designs

I believe the coverlets are slightly larger than the blankets

Good luck finding a king size bedspread. I ordered one from Bates; they just don't cover the new oversized mattresses/boxsprings?. I sent it back. I would have had to order special- crazy $$$$. Bedspreads are pretty passe. We have a vacation house and I use a Bates king bedspread on a queen bed; it's still sort of skimpy? But, I like the look, so fine by me.

Yes. I think I am looking for something that doesn’t exist.

Look at Vermont Country Store. They still carry old fashioned bedspreads, some that look like the Bates bedspread. I know nothing about their quality and have never ordered from them. I'm looking for the same thing and there selection caught my eye. Maybe someone else can chime in about them.

Comb through Amazon, there’s quite a selection of “coverlets” just be sure to check dimensions. The term bedspread seems to be out of fashion. I layered one over my duvet so I get larger coverage together with the poof of the down

What size measurements do you need? Priority - size or quality? Thanks.

In regards to query re: Etsy, here is a link to king bedspreads. https://www.etsy.com/search?q=king%20beadspreads&ref=search_bar

    Something to think about:

    - won’t it be a nuisance when making the bed to have both a comforter and bedspread and it might feel messy and lumpy.

    - consider a simple comforter and a quilt or coverlet at bottom of bed. We have coverlets at the bottom in winter (pull up when needed) and vice versa in the warmer months (or remove the comforter or duvet completely).

    - a california king is larger and perhaps a comforter is all you need; just layer and don’t avoid sets so as not to limit choices (don‘t have to use the shams).

We use a quilt from Garnett Hill with our comforter - creates a nice layered look

California King is longer, but narrower than standard king. I don’t think that would provide enough overhang for OP

king mattress is 80” wide. Looks like most quilts and coverlets run around 110” wide which would give roughly 15” overhang. Is that sufficient for what you need?

    for example..

I have a Queen size bed that sits 27" from the floor. In almost any commercial quilt I purchase a king size so it fits my queen size bed like the ones I bought years ago. Ideal overhang for me is somewhere around 20", not 12".

I don't know when sizes changed, but it seems that mattresses got thicker and quilts got smaller and we are left with bedding that looks like it is a size too small and doesn't go over the edge of the mattress by the time you get 2 people in the bed. I don't want a draft on my butt.

They also don't show accurate photos when selling the quilts. These all look much longer than a 12" overhang to me. . .

The links I provided below for Amish Quilts and for Cuddledown offer more generous sizing. Amish quilts are hand made and every one is different. I just picked one king size at random to show the size.

Touch of class also carries oversized quilts/bedspreads - forgot about them.

This one has a 24" drop

I use a duvet with cover in the winter, and a quilt as a bed scarf. When it’s warmer, the quilt is the bedspread and the duvet cover is the bed scarf. The duvet gets stored in a box under the bed with extra sheets.

Would greatly help if we knew the actual dimensions that you need.

A quick search on Amazon, "oversized king bedspreads"...yielded results that are 128 x 120 inches and 138 x 120 inches.

I’ll have to check that out. Width of mattress is 78. Would need at least 16 inches on each side.
Right now I have a king coverlet under the duvet. We like the extra weight and keep the room cold.
Thanks to all for the suggestions! Will take me awhile to explore all.

Have you looked into having it custom made? Not sure on cost as it would depend on material & labor. Just a thought

As far as cost on a custom made bedspread, a lot would depend on the fabric selected. Years ago I had la king-size one ordered by a designer (to match curtains) that was $600. That was why I asked about size or quality. You will probably find the right size at an online store for much less that a custom spread.

Purchased an expensive white cotton King coverlet. It was HUGE, practically touching the floor on either side of my King bed, obscuring the bedskirt. Until I washed it! Now it is the “right” size. But I fear what will happen when I wash it again! I hate the new thick mattresses. I was taught to make my bed with hospital corners (my mother was a nurse for 50 years and taught us well!). I can barely make a queen or king bed anymore, given the weight and thickness of most mattresses. And how sheets and bedding shrink in the wash. Good luck with your search.

I’m back for more advice. I never did find a bedspread that would work but found quilts large enough. Now I need input on color. I want to keep the current pillows. What do you think? Cream? Black? Other?

    Can you post the bedspread?

    Quilt

    Pictures at top of post

Oops sorry. No pictures of quilt

Pull colors from the art above your bed. And you can get a custom quilt made from Bluegrass Quilts on Etsy.

Actually a solid coverlet. But what color??????

I like the dark green velvet one posted above.
